Red Summer

Show Summary

Red Summer is an illuminating documentary series from The Sundance Channel that, over the course of six episodes, tells the story of how an isolated Alaskan village is transformed every summer with the coming of commercial salmon season. This entertaining series is produced and directed by Bill Carter, whose book of the same name is the basis for this revealing mini-series. For most of the year, this isolated Eskimo town in remote Alaska is the home to a small population of villagers who lead simple, quiet lives. Each summer, however, the area is flooded with visitors who come during salmon season. This series follows the fishermen that endure a wide variety of challenges in search of salmon, including grizzly bears, treacherous waters, and clouds of mosquitoes. Additionally, this series looks at the efforts of environmentalists who have documented the rapidly depleting population of salmon in Alaska and seek to stop the rampant and unchecked work of commercial fishermen. Red Summer is an informative series that presents all sides of a highly debated environmental issue.moreless
