Episode Summary

EDIT
Moving Out, Moving In, Moving On
AIRED:
The series begins with the four Sorelli sisters in the midst of their very complicated lives together. Oldest sister Ginnie, a high powered attorney is having difficulty on telling her husband that they are having a baby. Ann is dealing with the fact that her longterm relationship with her boyfriend Danny (guest star Dan Futterman) may be over. Marjee is in a rut on finding a restaurant to host a Pug Dog Benefit featuring Jillian Barbaree that will have live dogs. Also, college student Rose is having a hard time telling the family that she has switched college majors from Pre-Med to the Experimental Theatre Wing. The sisters are also dealing with the fact that their father, Joe (guest star Tom Irwin, "My So Called Life"), has just announced plans to marry his girlfriend, Renee (Christine Ebersole, Tony Award winner for "42nd Street"), a development that has left the women with conflicting emotions.moreless

  • One of the few to be good right out of the gate.

    8.4
I was really impressed by this show's pilot. It was beautifully filmed, beautifully acted, and well written. You could already tell that the actors had chemistry, and the potential for plot lines was unlimited due to the difference in ages and personalities among the sisters. The insight the writers had into human nature and the relationship between sisters was great, and they added a sense of humor while still getting to the heart of the issues. I thought right off the bat that this would be one of the hits of the season. Unfortunately it wasn't renewed when UPN and the WB combined to form whatever station it is now. I still wonder how they let this show get away.moreless
  • Flirty, Frothy, Fun Pilot Episode.

    10
    I loved this episode!

Ginnie is hilarous, I love her and Bob together, they're so sweet!

Marjee... who doesn't love Marjee??? Lizzy Caplan is great as her in this episode dealing with her annoying boss and all those pugs.

Poor Anne though... I hate Danny but still. She's so sad and things are so tense. I feel so bad for because Danny is part of the family and everyone loves him and she's going through this terrible thing.

I love Rose!!! Her blue hair was amazing and I love experimental theater and flash. Her whole thing is great, she is a great character!moreless
  • Related is the best family show to reach tv since Gilmore Girls or 7th Heaven!

    9.0
The pilot of Related was a little less exciting then I had expected but I can definitely see the potential in the show! All of the sisters are perfect cast and you can truely believe that these girls are related and have grown up together. I've been hook since show number one!
  • this 1st episode has got me hooked!

    9.9
The 1st episode of Related was absolutely great! I love it. Im hooked. I cant wait until next Monday to watch it! At first when I saw the attractions I wasn't going to watch it, but when I was done watching 7th Heaven, Marjee caught my eye-and from there I was hooked ever since! It is really and truly a great show! This episode was great. I loved how Anne turned to Ginnie for support, the their phone-chains, and how Ginnie announced to Bob how she is pregnant but doesnt want to tell the family yet. My favorite part was when they all storm off to the bathroom after all four of them told each other's secrets! great show!moreless
  • An incredible show!

    10
I only watched this because it sounded sort of interesting, but I was blown away. This show was incredible. I am definitely going to watch in the future.

I really like the dynamic between the sisters. They seem so real, unlike many other shows when the characters are flat and each chracter is a stereotype.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • When Ginnie was changing in front of Annie, she was wearing a black bra. After talking with Annie, she turned back into her apartment and her bra strap is clearly brown/peach color.

    • In the phone chain scene with Rose and Marjee, Marjee's make up is a lot heavier than just moments before in her conversation with Ann. The Rose/Marjee scene is obviously reused footage from the unaired pilot.

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Bob: Oh, I know. Let's get naked and figure out how you got pregnant in the first place.

    • Ginnie: Marjee, you are going to have to start learning how to figure things out on your own. Some day, I might not be around to help you out.
Marjee: Okay, you're acting really weird. Do you have some kind of terminal illness that has to do with soft drinks or something?

    • Marjee: I got it completely under control. I found a new place, and I've hired shuttle busses to take people from the old club to the new club. No, it'll be awesome. Yeah, we can call them "Pugmobiles."

    • Anne: "Postmodern Dance"? "Life as Ritual Performance"? Since when does N.Y.U. allow Pre-Med students a semester to lose their minds?
Rose: Uh, I'm not Pre-Med anymore. Shut up. I changed majors. I'm at the School of the Arts and I'm majoring in Experimental Theater. Shut up. You can't get like you get with Marjee. You know, all noble, wanting us to do something important with our lives. Shut up! I hated Pre-Med. And I want to be an artist. And I had more fun working on my audition than I had in years of Organic Chemistry.
      Anne: Congratulations?

    • Ginnie: I love the phone chain.
Grace: Here's an idea - why don't you call Ann and tell her to call Marjee, have her call Rose so she can tell Bob you're pregnant.

    • Marjee: Okay, so, he stands up to give me a hug, right, and, I swear to God, he smelled like cat food. But, like, he didn't even have any idea, because he lost his sense of smell in a bike accident.
Ginnie: Well, didn't you notice this when he hit on you at the bar?
Ann: No, this wasn't the emotionally unavailable guy from the bar. This was the codependent, wrong-number guy. Keep up.

    • Ginnie: "If you are not there, it is going to look like you don't like Renee."
Anne: "But I don't like Renee."
Ginnie: "That's why you have to be there."

    • Anne: Yeah, well...you set aside external expectations, you identified your own goals and then you acted on them. Good for you.
      Rose: You really mean that?
Anne: No! That's what I'm trained to say. Somehow it's easier to say to a man who wants to wear a dress than to a little sister that's screwing up her life.

    • Anne: What are we gonna do?
Rose: There's nothing you can do.
Anne: No, for Dad. We have to do something.
Ginnie: Well...we should have an engagement dinner.
Marjee: Or we could poison her.
Anne: Or we could poison her at the engagement dinner.
Ginnie: Well, either way we have to make a reservation.

    • Rose: Why am I always at the bottom of the phone chain?
Marjee: Because you're the youngest and we don't care about your feelings.

    • Rose: I transferred from Pre-Med to the Experimental Theater Wing.
University Registration Lady:"Your parents must be so proud."
