Event: A SMALL VILLAGE SOUTH OF PARIS 1789

Sydney and Nigel's graduate student Nicole Chamfort is convinced that young lovers from her ancestral hometown in France, were secretly married on the eve of the French Revolution, moments before the happy groom was murdered by revolutionaries. If true, the bride's illegitimate son would be the rightful heir of the de Bourdin family. With the imminent sale of St. Agnes Sur-Loire to land developers, the race is on to Sydney and Nigel to conjure up centuries-old church records believed to have been burned by anti-clerics during the Revolution. The land developers will go to any lengths to stop them.moreless

  • Sydney and Nigel help a student out to save her town from developers.

    8.5
After an exciting start where the bridegroom dies minutes after his wedding, Sydney and Nigel go to France to catch up with student Nicole. She wants to save her town from developers and needs to prove the townspeople own the town - via an ancient will from the de Bourdin bridegroom. However, the current head of the du Bourdin family (Vincent) is prepared to sell to developers and ensure that nobody finds evidence to the contrary. Sydney searches for clues while Nigel is distracted by his attraction to Nicole. However, they find some hidden evidence in the du Bourdin family cellar and this leads them to a church. Via a stain-glass window, Sydney finds the location to an old cave - where they find the ancient du Bourdin marriage certificate and will. However, Vincent is prepared to kill to stop them but a rockslide stops him. This traps Sydney's gang in the cave - but they find a way out and just stop the developers from taking over. In the meantime, Claudia has to deal with the Dean - who is intent on talking with Sydney.

This is the third of 3 French-related stories in a row - and they have all been very good. Nicole - played by Elsa Kikoine - is incredibly luminous as the earnest grad student requiring some help - and it is easy to understand Nigel's infatuation with her. However, this attraction actually distracts from the main story at times. Again the French buldings and scenery add to the story and Sydney is at her best solving clues and fighting off villains. This episode also marks more screen time being devoted for Claudia (Lindy Booth).moreless
  • True love and greed all mixed up together.

    9.4
A last minute marriage with a dying declaration about the unborn child's heritage leads Nigel and Sydney to a small village in France.

For once it is Nigel getting the attention from a former student who is investigating who is the rightful owner of the town - the developer or the townspeople.

Clues lead them to the developers home where they need to break into several times before they know and have everything they need.

The clues leading them underground and then to a church where a stained-glass window holds the key and the truth.

Wonderful to see Nigel having a bit of fun and loving instead of Sydney. A great storyline and a well down ending.moreless
