Sydney's friend (Naomi) is left disfigured after putting on an ancient mask for a fashion show. Naomi goes to hospital and her agent (Julian) is told she may die. Sydney and Nigel believe the mask may have belonged to an Executioner - during the French Revolution. They discover from an expert that there is a curse associated with the mask - the wearer would become disfigured (like the original Executioner) and also share in the memories of those that died in the past. The curse would be broken if the mask is returned to the original resting place of the Executioner. Sydney and Nigel follow some clues that lead them to an old orphanage. Here they discover that a disfigured child was left - at the same time that the orphanage received a large donation. They further discover a link between this donation and a wealthy family of the time. Sydney and Nigel then find the resting place of the disfigured child - who became the Executioner - in the family crypt. But then Julian decides that he would make more money by selling the mask (instead of helping his client) and threatens Sydney. She puts the mask on him and he becomes disfigured - while in the hospital Naomi miraculously recovers. Sydney then places the mask on the Executioner's skeletal remains and Julian recovers also.

This is another nicely written story. The outdoor shots of the French towns are great and add to the story. In addition, some points are made about the obsessive media attraction to beauty and perfection.moreless
