  • Reno sets out to nab Otto, a killer and former cellmate of the man involved in the murder Reno was framed for, who may hold key information; but winds up saving a female judge from Otto, who is determined to kill her. Fair but slightly disappointing...moreless

After a decent Pilot and the top-notch "Hunting Accident", I was really looking forward to the next episode. Maybe my hopes were too high, but – while it has a decent plot somewhere in there – I found "Final Judgement" to be somewhat of a letdown. Don't get me wrong, "Final Judgement" has its good elements. But it feels too thrown together and too awkwardly paced for it to really be one of my favourites of the series.

As villain of the piece Otto, Marshall Teague puts in a good performance, but the character is so strong that I feel he maybe wasn't used to his full potential. Also, it was a shame that he was killed off at the end as there was easily enough mileage in Otto to merit a return appearance or two.

Part of the reason I feel "Final Judgement" is a bit awkwardly paced, is that there is an awful lot crammed in that the episode tries to tackle (and as a result, I felt maybe the odd element could have been made clearer or expanded on). As such, I can't help but wonder if this one would have fared better as a two-parter.

At time of writing (February 2011), this episode holds a respectably high rating on of 9.3, so others obviously really like it. I indeed like it too, but it certainly wasn't the best of the (admittedly little) I've seen on 'Renegade' so far. I give this one a fair but not top-ranking 8 out of 10. I'm sure others will disagree.moreless
