Although not the first episode filmed after the Pilot, "Hunting Accident" was picked to be broadcast as the second instalment, and they chose well – this is a great episode.

After only catching the very odd episode years ago when ITV showed it late at night (see my review of the Pilot for more), "Hunting Accident" was the first episode was the first episode I'd seen in about ten years when I stumbled over it on Freesat channel CBS Action. I only caught a glimpse of it, but it was the one that made me decide to tackle to complete DVD set that I'd bought a little while beforehand.

Bobby's scam of the poor local (complete with hilarious description to Cheyenne about how to spot a viable candidate), whose identities he swaps with the jailed Reno, is classic Stephen J. Cannell; many vintage shows of the 1970s, '80s and '90s utilized various "cons", but Cannell was easily the master of this kinda thing by far.

I really enjoyed watching this story for the first time – it has lots of twists and turns, and does not sag at any point. As with all great Stephen J. Cannell shows, it has just the right balance of comedy, drama and action.

When I started following this series, having by-and-large missed it during its original run, I was worried that to an extent it would be dated 1990s plastic. I shouldn't have worried - going by the Pilot and especially this episode, I already love the show.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one, enough to give it a solid 10 out of 10.moreless
