    • QUOTES (14)

      • Mal: Why is it every time we do anything, you take a beating?
Jake: What are you getting on with?
Mal: I bet you can't go three days without getting a punch in the face.
        Jake: Malachy Doyle is gambling!
Mal: Believe me, this is not a gamble.

      • Terry: To be honest, hiring private detectives, it just feels a little bit creepy.
Jake: You should try being one.

      • Jake: If we want any intel on this guy, we gotta get in close.
Rose: To his wife, you mean.
Jake: No, I'm serious, if we want to know more, we gotta get a man on the inside.
Rose: Of his wife, you mean.

      • (Jake kicks a kissing couple out of his cab)
Jake: Hey, hey... get out! Get. Out.
Girl: Why would you leave us here?
Jake: Get out, get out, get out, get out!
Man: If you think I'm tipping for this, you're nuts!

      • (after Mal, Jake, and Ned have all been beaten)
        Jake: You all right, Dad?
Mal: Yeah, yeah, I'm okay, fine.
Ned: How'd you know I was in trouble, anyway? And who's he?
Mal: I was just, uh, driving by.
Ned: Yeah? Well, he called you "Dad".
Jake: We... that's because I have, you know, father issues.

      • (Nikki and Jim are on a date at Signal Hill)
Nikki: So this is really nice, you know, it's like, it's normal, like, I'm not used to normal. Um, 'cause I can lose it from time to time, and uh, Jake, oh my god, he's like... and the two of us together are like crazy people, and we're like, on fire, I swear to god, we had the craziest ... I'm so sorry, I'm totally talking about my ex, it's so rude.

      • (after telling Terry that Ned may be having an affair and drinking again)
Jake: Should we let her just go and kill him, or... ?
        Mal: Better not.

      • (looking at pictures of Nikki and Jim on their date)
Des: And here, look, look, she's got her hand on his heart, right? And here, on his arm while she's talking to him; she's totally presenting.
        Jake: Presenting?
Des: Yeah, she likes him, totally. She's ready to mate, man. (Jake pushes Des's face into the desk and twists his arm)
Jake: Des Courtney, that is my wife you are talking about, okay? If you tell anybody about this, I'll have you spayed and neutered, you understand?

      • Leslie: (to Jake) Just do me a favour and don't call me for a while. A long while. I got better things to do than spending my time feeding you information while you pretend to stare at my chest.

      • Ned: I made one little mistake, all right? I knew they were shipping in booze from St. Pierre, so I hi-jacked a shipment.
Jake: You ripped off rum runners?
Mal: That would explain the beatings.

      • Maurice: Parlez-vous français?
Mal: No, uh... non. A little... un peu.
        Maurice: Come from de Saint-Jean?
        Jake: It's St. John's.
Maurice: (laughs) God, just shaggin' wit ya, boys.

      • (dropping a gun on the table in front of Jake and Mal)
Maurice: Now then, who the hell are ye, and how stupid are ye to come over here and sit at my table?

      • Karen: My uncle is scarier than you think. There's only so long I can continue to supply Ned Bishop his rum.
Jake: Are you stealing the rum from your uncle?
Karen: No, no, it is a parallel operation. The whole island wants to get rid of my uncle; il est un moody bastard.

      • Mal: You know the beauty of rum-running? It's a victimless crime.
Jake: Oh yeah? What about the taxes?
Mal: That's why God gave us the oil.

Ned: Who's the one who watches the History Channel all day?

Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were criminals in the Midwest United States in the early 30s; both died in a shoot out with police in Louisiana on May 23, 1934. They were immortalized on film in Bonnie & Clyde (1967).
