Trivia: Bill Harmon is Emily's second take down. He was her father's best friend and David Clarke shared with Bill the affair David was having with Victoria. Bill confided in David that he was guilty of insider trading. Bill then gave false testimony pining the insider trading and money laundering on his friend David Clarke.
The main portion of the first episode took place five months before the eventful first scene at Emily's engagement party.
In this the second episode it states that it takes place twelve weeks before the engagement party.
That would mean this episode took place two months after the main portion of the previous episode.
However Emily's arrival at the Hamptons still feelsvery recentwith Ashley mentioning that Emily's meeting of Daniel in the previous episode was the week before.
Every episode (so far) except the pilot opens with the same voice over with adult Amanda (fake Emily) saying:
When I was a child, my father was framed for a crime he didn't commit.
Emily Thorne (closing voiceover): Sometimes the innocent get hurt but one by one the guilty will pay. nothing ever goes exactly as you expect when the stakes are life and death collateral damage is inescapable. Trust is a difficult thing… whether it's finding the right people to trust or trusting the right people will do the wrong thing. But trusting your heart is the riskiest thing of all. In the end, the only person you can truly trust is yourself."
Amanda Clarke: (closing voiceover) Trust is a difficult thing. Whether it's finding the right people to trust or trusting the right people will do the wrong thing. But trusting your heart, is the riskiest thing of all. In the end the only person we can truly trust is ourselves.
Bill Harmon: You know Nolan Ross?
Emily Thorne: Yes we've been close for a long time.
Bill Harmon: A bit of an odd bird that one. I wouldn't guess he had any real friends at all much less one as lovely as you.
Emily Thorne: Nolan knows that when people look at him they see dollar signs. He's built up a few defense mechanisms. It's hard to know who to trust when it comes to money.
Bill Harmon: I couldn't agree more. Who do you trust with your money?
Emily Thorne: With my money? Myself since 2008. Sitting in cash and short term bonds wondering when that second shoe is going to drop.
Bill Harmon : My fund actually made money in 2008.
Emily Thorne : Really? Well what do you have a crystal ball?
Bill Harmon: And a magic hat. Bit of free advice the other shoe isn't going to drop anytime soon. You should consider getting back into the market.
Emily Thorne: I never said I wasn't considering.
Nolan: Greetings, Earthlings. Nolan Ross here with what was supposed to be a surprise announcement about the future of NolCorp, but someone somewhere has a big mouth. I can now confirm that the Allcom rumors came from a woefully misguided employee. Allcom is dead to me and will not be receiving the contract. Instead, I've decided to offer our humble services to Allcom's soon-to-be chief competitor Unitech.
Emily Thorne: When everything you love has been stolen from you, sometimes all you have left is revenge.
Emily: addressing Victoria My father always said that our past defines who we are.
Victoria: I would say our choices are what define us.
Emily: Maybe for the lucky. But sometimes in life we are not given a choice.
