Show Summary

Australia's Greatest Athlete pits eight stars from a variety of different sports and teams against each other to determine who is Australia's best all-round athlete. Contestants compete in 15 physical challenges over eight weeks, including swimming, diving, oztag, rock climbing, sprints, bench pressing and kayaking. At the end of the tournament, the athlete who has the earned the highest overall score will be named Australia's Greatest Athlete 2010. Debuting on Channel 9 in January and February of 2009, the first season was hosted by Andrew Voss and Michael Slater. Season one featured A-league soccer player Joel Griffiths, V8 Supercar driver Jamie Whincup, 2008 Beijing Olympic pole vault gold medalist Steve Hooker, Richmond Tigers AFL star Brett Deledio, Wallabies Rugby Union player Lote Tuqiri, Australian Ironman Ky Hurst, Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds and Melbourne Storm NRL star Billy Slater who took out the first title of Australia's greatest athlete. Currently in its second season following a move to Channel Seven, the show now airs Saturdays and Sundays at 4:30pm in February and is hosted by Australian media personalities Mark Baretta and Tom Williams, with Rexona-sponsored Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting providing commentary throughout the competition. The season 2 competition sees Billy Slater return to defend his title, along with seven new challengers: 2008 Beijing Olympic diving gold medalist Matthew Mitcham, A-league soccer player Jason Culina, AFL star Cameron Ling, Rugby League and Rugby Union player Wendell Sailer, Rugby Union player player James O'Connor, V8 Supercar driver Craig Lowndes and Two-time world Ironman champion Shannon Eckstein.moreless
