Riders of Death Valley is a 1941 serial film directed by Ford Beebe and Ray Taylor. The western revolves around Jim Benton (Dick Foran) and his good-guy vigilante group known as the Riders of Death Valley. The riders are on a mission to defend their town known as Panamint and are especially focused on protecting the miners' interests from corrupt businessmen, like the villainous Wolf Reade (Charles Bickford.) Reade, and his hired guns, control the town and are constantly in the pursuit of more gold and power. The film is filled with light-hearted humor and constant wise-cracks. It also has the characteristic western scenery and good guy versus bad guy plot. Also, present are the stereotypical gunfights, chases, and ambushes. The movie has an all-star cast and was extremely high budget for its day. The large cost for the movie resulted in the film being dubbed the "million-dollar serial" which was an unheard of amount for the time.
