    -wrestlezone.com:

Ring of Honor booker Gabe Sapolsky made the following post on the ROH board regarding the Motor City Machine Guns of Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin not being able to appear at two shows later in the month. However, Sapolsky has found a suitable replacement in another TNA tag team. Here is what Sapolsky wrote:

The Motor City Machine Guns of Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin will not be able to appear at the 10/24 & 10/25 events due to a scheduling conflict. We apologize for the lineup change.

However, we feel we have a suitable replacement. Former ROH World Champion Homicide and his regular partner Hernandez, known as LAX, will now wrestle on the 10/24 Danbury, CT and 10/25 Edison, NJ events. It will be a homecoming weekend for Homicide in Ring Of Honor.

Homicide is one of the founding fathers of ROH. His feuds against Samoa Joe, CZW, Steve Corino and Colt Cabana have gone in the history books as some of the greatest feuds in ROH history. Homicide reached the apex of ROH when he won the World Title at "Final Battle 2006" in a sold out Manhattan Center to end Bryan Danielson's 15 month reign. "The Notorious 187" has been involved in some of ROH's greatest moments and matches. He has earned "ROH Legend" status and now for the first time in well over a year he will return to the ROH ring.

Homicide has devoted his time since ROH to teaming with the powerhouse Hernandez as LAX. Together, Homicide & Hernandez have gained recognition as one of the top tag teams in the sport. The duo has never tested themselves against ROH's rich tag team roster. Now they will get thrown into the fire of the ROH tag team division.

We will have more information on both shows including LAX's matches by the end of the week. We assure you that LAX will be in main event quality matches.

ROH President Cary Silkin is very pleased with the attention The Wrestler is getting. The New York Post had a full-page color article for the film that featured ROH. The climax of the movie was filmed at an ROH event, and Silkin hopes that this will bring some attention to the company, especially to new fans.

Nigel McGuiness, The Necro Butcher and Claudio Castagnoli all have appearances in the film.

Tickets for the Ring of Honor shows in Houston, Texas, that will take place over WrestleMania weekend, are currently on sale.

Tyler Black vs. Austin Aries has been announced for the December 28th show in New York. The winner of the match will receive an ROH Title match.

The Philadelphia show on December 27th has been named All-Star Extravaganza IV

The Screen Actor's Guild Award Nominees came out today, and Mickey Rourke was nominated in the category of "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role" for his part in The Wrestler.

The Final Countdown Tour" officially kicks off on Thursday night September 10th in Philadelphia, PA with another set of "ROH on HDNet" TV Tapings. After the second night in Philly, the tour continues on to Dayton, OH and Chicago Ridge, IL on September 18th & 19th. Finally, we wrap things up on September 25th & 26th in Boston, MA and New York City, NY with "Glory by Honor VIII". Between these six events, Bryan Danielson is going to be tested with some of the toughest opponents he has ever faced, and one he has never gone one-on-one with here in Ring of Honor. Here's a look at the last six nights of "The American Dragon's" ROH career:

Thursday September 10, 2009- The Arena, 7 Ritner Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148
Bryan Danielson and Roderick Strong vs. The American Wolves

Bryan and Roderick recently went to war on HDNet against The Wolves & Chris Hero in 6-Man Tag action with KENTA as their partner, and despite the fact that Strong pinned Edwards, The Wolves claim that this team does not deserve a shot at the belts either. "Strong got lucky," said Edwards. "But one lucky night doesn't mean he and Bryan deserve a shot. They've both failed before, many times, so tell me how they deserve a chance? And besides I know Danielson really doesn't want me to tap him out one more time. I mean is that really how he wants to say goodbye?" ROH officials will look at the facts and rule on the title match shortly, but in the meantime, Danielson and Strong have sent word that their training over the next few weeks will be at an all time high. Not only because of this match, but also because of the match that Danielson requested for his last match in Philadelphia.

Friday, September 11, 2009- The Arena, 7 Ritner Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148
    Bryan Danielson vs. Roderick Strong

It's been a very long time since Bryan and Roddy have gone one-on-one, since "Anarchy in the UK" in 2006 to be exact, but their matches over the ROH World Title were some of the hardest hitting contests in company history. In fact Bryan's chest still bears scars from their wars. But it was these wars the created high level of respect between these two warriors, and regardless of the paths their careers took since their last outing, the two men have always respected one another. That is why Danielson hand-selected Strong to be his last opponent in ROH's hometown. "Roddy is one of the best wrestlers, period," said Danielson. "And as corny as it sounds, it would be my honor to say farewell to the city where ROH started with one last match against him." Then with a smile he added, "Hopefully this time I won't bleeding from my chest."

Friday, September 18, 2009- Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 1043 S. Main Street, Dayton, OH 45409
    Bryan Danielson vs. Chris Hero

This match was signed prior to the announcement of Bryan's departure, but it is apropos that he face "That Young Knockout Kid" as part of his farewell tour. One of the most memorable feuds in ROH history was the war with CZW in 2006, and all of that kicked off after Hero challenged Danielson for the ROH World Title at "Hell Freezes Over". Only one other time in ROH history have these two faced off in singles competition, and both fighters have greatly improved since their last singles meeting at "Undeniable". Unlike Strong, Hero is a man who would take great pleasure in ruining Danielson's Dayton farewell, and will most certainly go to any lengths necessary to insure that happens.

Saturday, September 19, 2009- Frontier Fieldhouse, 9807 Sayre Avenue, Chicago Ridge, IL 60415
    Bryan Danielson vs. Tyler Black

Since their first singles meeting at "Breakout", Black and Danielson have engaged in some of the most memorable battles of the last year and a half. Whether it was the unforgettable battle at "New Horizons" or any of their top shelf matches for ROH on HDNet, these two seem to bring out the best in one another. In fact, Danielson was so impressed by Tyler that he picked Black as his partner at "Tag Title ****c" when they challenged The Wolves for the World Tag Titles. Unsuccessful that bid may have been, it did earn them a rematch on HDNet in which they again come up just short of being crowned champions. In their most recent go-round Tyler, after two inconclusive finishes, managed to finally defeat Danielson on HDNet. The question is now if Tyler can do it again? Bryan once said that he knew Tyler would be better than him one day, and that day he was. Tyler's now has to prove he can stand up and say "I'm better than you every day." This one, much like the Strong match, will be a battle of respect.

Friday, September 25, 2009 - Boston University (Case Gym), 285 Babcock Street, Boston, MA 02215
    Bryan Danielson vs. Davey Richards

Where Strong and Black will be battles of respect, this one will most certainly be a war of attrition. Never before in ROH have these two warriors met, and Danielson himself selected Davey to be one of his final opponents. These are two of the most vicious striker in ROH who have both shown their willingness to inflict punishment in order to secure their victory. They are both accomplished mat wrestlers, both at the top of their game, and each man constantly strives to be the best. Danielson has long laid claim to the moniker of "Best In The World", but Richards is one guy who would love to snatch that crown, even if Bryan's head is still attached to it. This is most certainly a Dream Match for the ROH faithful, and is liable to leave both men battered as they head into two huge matches in NYC the following night.

Saturday, September 26, 2009- Manhattan Center (Grand Ballroom), 311 W. 34th Street, New York, NY 10001
    Bryan Danielson vs. Austin Aries

"Glory by Honor" is a name synonymous with some of the greatest nights in ROH history, and "The American Dragon" has been a large part of many of those nights; Danielson vs. Gibson, Danielson vs. KENTA, and Danielson vs. Morishima just to name a few of his "GBH" matches. Well the 8th edition of this ROH event will be memorable for several reasons. Not only will it mark the final night of Bryan Danielson's ROH career, but it may also mark the crowning of a new champion as he faces Austin Aries with the ROH World Title on the line. Their bouts have been some of the best in ROH's history, and their rivalry has largely been fueled by competition and mutual respect. This time it has a lot20more to do with disrespect; disrespect to the ROH World Title and disrespect emanating from every word out of Aries' mouth. What better way for Danielson to close this chapter in his life than by capturing the ROH World Title for the second time and shutting A Double up at the same time? It would certainly be a bittersweet victory, given the circumstances, but this writer couldn't think of a better parting gift for this ROH Legend.

So please join us as we celebrate the career of Bryan Danielson, and bid him a fond farewell during the month of September. Tickets for all six of these events are available right here at www.rohwrestling.com. Come take part in this "Final Countdown"…

UPDATE ON WWE INTERESTS IN RING OF HONOR TALENT By Mike Johnson on 2009-09-05 09:12:07 As we first reported several weeks ago in the Elite section of PWInsider.com, Ring of Honor moving their HDNet series to Monday Nights captured the attention of World Wrestling Entertainment, sparking the decision to begin closely watching the promotion and signing talent.

Since that time, Bryan Danielson (who has been the MVP and face of ROH from day one) and Nigel McGuinness (who may be the most deserving talent to be signed by WWE in the last decade, Danielson included, based on the level of work and the amount of damage he did to himself during the course of his ROH title reign) agreed in principle to deals with World Wrestling Entertainment.

In the case of Danielson, there was interest in him several months back by WWE and one creative plan was to debut him as Bryan Kendrick's "perfect partner" (if you remember that shelved storyline) but once Kendrick ended up on the chopping block, that idea was iced. Danielson opted not to sign a new ROH deal this past Spring, at which point the decision was made to de-emphasize him in storylines and use him to prepare the next level of talent, particularly Tyler Black.

In the case of McGuinness, WWE was aware of him and in the past, once instructed Ohio Valley Wrestling to stop using him on their TV because he wasn't a contracted talent but had never made a strong push to sign him, although there were times talent, including William Regal, had suggested him. The irony is that in the past, TNA had strong interest in McGuinness and when he wasn't available to them, they instead signed Doug Williams, who went unused for a long time before the British Invasion stable was launched. TNA had begun tossing McGuinness' name around internally in the last month, only to see WWE sign him.

Now, as far as whether this ends WWE's interest in ROH talent, I can confirm that is absolutely not the case. Members of WWE creative have been told to watch the ROH TV product and come up with ideas for talents they feel would be "WWE-worthy" (the term used to me) performers.

In my initial report on my Hotline, I mentioned there were 3-5 names being discussed. In the last week, there were three other names who WWE had at least taken a mild interest in beyond McGuinness and Danielson. Now, that doesn't mean they are going to absolutely sign anyone else, but I know there's interest.

Some ROH talents are under long-term contracts. Others, including one who claimed to me on Thursday that he had the option to give ROH thirty days notice in order to be released, may not be. So, it's going to be interesting to see how the story develops and whether any other talent signs.

It's also going to be interesting to see if ROH can develop a new crew of talent to replace the established names that choose to depart, like Danielson and Nigel. In the last ten months, the American Wolves have picked up a ton of momentum, but ROH's battle will be similar to ECW's in the mid-1990s in that they need to be a "teflon" company, not showing the signs of loss while getting new talents over to an audience that deeply loved the departed names.

As of September 26th in New York City, a new chapter truly begins for Ring of Honor.

    Mike Johnson of PWinsider wrote:
The rumors of Chris Hero signing with World Wrestling Entertainment, which sprouted up Saturday are completely without merit. There's been some interest in Hero on WWE's side as several people in the company suggested him when they began looking at ROH wrestlers to sign, but there have been no offers or even conversations between the two sides at this time.

Jim Cornette will be working all the ROH on HDNet TV Tapings in his role as "Executive Producer" and will be working with Adam Pearce on the creative aspect of things, but Pearce remains the booker. I suspect Cornette will begin working in the HDNet Production truck with similar responsibilities as he had working for TNA, helping the wrestling side bridge to the production side in order to make a better TV product. ROH and Cornette came to terms about a week before his debut.

TNA star and former ROH champion Homicide was in New York City on Saturday for the Glory by Honor show to see Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness' farewell. He actually came out in front of the crowd before the show in the Manhattan Center to rile everyone up and got a big pop from his hometown fans.

Julius Smokes was also at the show and came out at the end for the farewell ceremony. I wish ROH would find a role for him already.

Despite the advance sellout, ROH still turned 200 fans away at the door on Saturday night.

Eddie Edwards' broken elbow was suffered on Friday during a spot where he was tossed down a set of stairs in his Anything Goes match against Kevin Steen. The NYC crowd treated Edwards like a babyface on Saturday in the Ladder War match since they knew he was working with such a bad injury.

The early word is the Glory by Honor show will likely end up a double DVD set.

As we previously reported, the 2009 Final Battle show will be 12/19 at the Manhattan Center's Grand Ballroom.

For those of you who may have missed it yesterday, we have free audio of Jim Cornette's return speech and the farewell ceremony for Danielson and McGuinness. I wanted to thank ROH owner Cary Silkin for granting us permission to post the audio. You can listen to them below.

Farewell Ceremony - To listen to the MP3, click here.

I'll have an audio discussing the NYC event in the Elite section later today as well.

    ROH Press Release:

It has been quite a long time since the legendary Jushin "Thunder" Liger has graced the ROH ring. Back in November of 2004, Ring of Honor celebrated the "Weekend of Thunder" in Revere, MA and Elizabeth, NJ with two top-shelf matches featuring the multi-time champion. The first night in Massachusetts, Liger defeated "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson in singles competition and followed it up in New Jersey with a tag team victory when he and Samoa Joe beat Danielson & Low Ki.

In the time since that historic weekend, Liger has continued the legendary career that earned him fame throughout the world, most recently competing in this year's "Super J-Cup 5th Stage" where he ended up on the short end of the stick against Naomichi Marufuji. Now Liger returns to Ring of Honor for the first time in over five years when we head to Los Angeles on January 29, 2010 in conjunction with the Wrestle Reunion 4 convention!

ROH officials are happy to announce that we have come to terms on Liger's match for January 29th and that his opponent will be none other than the ROH World Champion, Austin Aries. And to the shock of many, it was actually Aries who contacted ROH officials and demanded that he face the Japanese legend.

"So Jushin Liger is coming back to Ring of Honor and he needs an opponent," said Aries. "Well look no further than "Mr. It", "A Double"! Liger wants to waltz on in here and steal the champs' thunder when MY company comes to Los Angeles. Well, it doesn't work that way, kid! So I'm putting it out there right now, me and you Liger, one-on-one, but know that this is a test. Don't presume you deserve a shot at MY Ring of Honor World Title. You may be a legend and a champion all around the world, but I frankly don't think you can hang with me or half the cats in ROH and you certainly haven't done anything to earn a shot at this gold. So let's see if you have what it takes in L.A., shall we? Call it a "friendly scrimmage", Liger, because you may be great, but you're not the "Greatest Man That Ever Lived".

So there you have it, it'll be Austin Aries vs. Jushin "Thunder" Liger, January 29, 2010, Wrestle Reunion 4! Can Liger score a win over the champ in Non-Title action? Or will Aries once again back up that big mouth of his? Check out www.wrestlereunion.com for more information and to purchase tickets, and keep checking back here at www.ROHWrestling.com for the latest news heading into ROH's debut in LA!
