  • This could be interesting, and it IS good to see SMG again.

    7.5
When I first read about this show and the premise behind it, I quite liked what I heard. I have missed Sarah Michelle Gellar since her "Buffy" days and I thought that this role would be right up her alley. My biggest problem with it is the obvious contrast between the "good guys" and the "bad guys". The nasty types all look obligingly sinister, while the 'nice' people could practically be wearing halos.

The script is weak but I hope it will get better as it goes along. Pilots are always just really a taster so hopefully the best is yet to come. I intend to keep watching.moreless
  • Anyone expecting to see Buffy were sadly disapponted. Apart from that, not a bad start to what could be an amazing show.

    7.5
Besides the semi flying kick at her attacker at the end, anyone who expected to see Buffy was greatly disappointed. Fortunately, I was under no such misconception. I quite enjoyed Ringer. i'll certainly be tuning in for ep 2.

Whether this be intentional or not, I think this show could not have been scheduled for a better time. Anyone who likes ABC Family's Pretty Little Liars will probably really enjoy Ringer, and with PLL on hiatus right now, this could be exactly what PLL fans need to pass the time until next January when PLL returns. This fully fits the bill of evening-time soap opera, with all the drama that could be expected from such a show. While I felt the plot was a tad predictable in parts, I did enjoy it on the whole. It is clear that Siobhan is as messed up as PLL's A is. However, I think Siobhan will have a depth that A never will(until A is revealed, anyway).

I have a strong feeling that whatever caused Siobhan and Bridget's estrangement has damaged Siobhan's mental state and that is why her life is so twisted. We can only wait and see how this all plays out.

I will admit that the boat scene was awful, but it happened very near the start, and I had mostly forgotten it by the end of the ep. I will also admit that Gellar's acting was a bit bland in parts. That said, I think we should give her some time to settle into the role. Buffy fans will know that Gellar can act and I think she just needs a chance to get to grips with her character(s) before things improve.

I have no doubt that Ringer will get some very scathing reviews(mostly from people who love SMG but really aren't fans of the soap-drama genre that Ringer so perfectly fits). That said, I feel sure thing will pick up and I cannot wait to see what happens next. I am positive that PLL fans will love Ringer and that it will certainly outshine ABC Family's The Lying Game, a show extremely similar to Ringer but lacking the potential depth that Ringer could achieve. By the end of season 1, I feel people will either love Ringer or despise it.

While I have my doubts that Ringer is on the right network(The CW just doesn't feel right for Ringer), I do think that there will be great improvements as the series continues and hopefully this will be the hit that Gellar's career has need in these long years since Sunnydale was swallowed up. Bring on more, I say.moreless
  • Interesting.

    5.5
I don't tend to judge a show's quality by it's pilot, because most of my favorite shows had pretty bad starts. Now to be honest, reading about the storyline didn't exactly get me to check the show out, and neither did the tacky trailer. It was Sarah Michelle Gellar. Star of my favorite show, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, comes back to television. Me not watching Sarah's return would be wrong, just wrong.

Anyway, the storyline is a little too out there for a show in this genre. The dialogue is a bit cheesy, and some of the scenes were just awkward. The actors did a great job portraying their characters even though they were given the roles of stereotypes we've seen before.

Nevertheless, it's entertaining, it has Sarah Michelle Gellar and it's just the pilot.moreless
  • Majorly flawed, but I liked it.

    7.0
My main motivations, aside from general interest, for watching this were my teenage obsession with Buffy & a small (major!) crush on Ioan Gruffudd.

I enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting to, especially judging from the opening - did those statues at the beginning remind anyone else of certain TV show featuring a lot of grave-yards?

I think that an excellent cast boosted the confusing narrative, sometimes shaky dialogue & terrible CGI (the boat scene), although I think they achieved having Bridget & Siobhan together effectively.

The mirror imagery was so obvious, it was laughable, & over-used. It barely worked in the previews & publicity stills - it shouldn't have been continued.

There is entirely too much going on - addiction, court cases, murder, inappropriatecrushes , marriage problems, adultery, father-daughter problems, something mysterious having happened to a child & something mysterious going on with about every other character, not to mention what on earth is going on with Siobhan - why did she fake her death? Did she try to kill her sister? Why?

I have always found it annoying when TV feel the need to tell you where a scene is taking place (& when) & this took it to new levels - I know I said the narrative is confusing, but I think Paris is pretty recognisable by the Eiffel Tower!

My last problem might sound a bit silly, but - there's to many men in it. I think this sort of show needs a central couple (not necessarily romantic) dynamic & Bridget seems to have four potentials for that here. OK, so the show is about her & her sister, but they're obviously not going to have much joint screen time, so...

WOW, I really must think a lot of this cast!moreless
  • This show is completely ridiculous. Yet I know I will not be able to stop watching it. The writers of Ringer expertly incorporate three dramatic elements that when separate make for a horrible show but when together they form pure genius. Continue...moreless

    8.0
This show contains, bad acting, bad writing, and drama only fit for a soap opera... whats not to love?!?

    Summary:

The episode starts with Bridget, the lovable ex-druggie/stripper/prostitute at a NA meeting in Wyoming. The drama starts almost instantly. You find out that she is the key witness in the a murder trial. She is supposed to testify the next day against a mobster, who happens to look like a mix between an old man and a monkey wearing a sweatshirt with a hood... Oh, and Bridget is in love with her NA sponsor! And she thinks, "If the mobster, wants me dead I'm dead." So she steals her body guards gun, knocks him out cold and runs away!Flash to NYC, Bridget looks really classy... Oh wait that is not Bridget it is her identical twin Siobhan! They have not talked in 6 years since Bridget may or may not have killed Siobhan's son. They reconcile almost immediately... Then they are on a boat! Why? Because it reminds them of Tahoe (don't ask you won't understand). Bridget takes this as an opportunity to take a nap. OMG where did Siobhan?!?! Bridget finds Siobhan's ring on the boat and naturally decides to pretend to be her sister.Flashfoward, Siobhan's husband comes home from London and is a complete dick. This is where you feel bad for Siobhan. Bridget quickly starts learning about her new life, including her best friend Gemma, who is designing her new apartment. After a day Bridget can't take it anymore and decides to call her NA sponsor and tell hime what is going on. But who is that man staring up at her from the street. Cut to the opera! Very bad camera angle, the same man is creepily standing there staring at Bridget. Siobhan's husband is being nice, yay!Oh now Bridget is running through a private exhibit. Step back, Siobhan was having an affair with that random man. Wait what it is Gemma's husband. Twist.Snap to Siobhan's apartment! The husband is being an ass again. You find out that it was not his choice to act like that but Siobhan was actually a raging bitch! Crazy right?!? Time to stop feeling bad for Siobhan. They have a daughter, real or step daughter?!? We don't know but Siobhan hates her and she just got kicked out of boarding school again... Oh and she does crack...Flash to a bar, Bridget is an alcoholic and can't drink. But Bridget gets a call that Siobhan was pregnant?!? What??! Random man thinks it is his baby and says Bridget has to choose between him and her husband. She chooses her husband... oh no.Flash to a random side street, Bridget's phone rings... It is Gemma, she thinks she know who her husband is cheating on her with. She asks Bridget to meet her at her new apartment. Bridget gets there and there is a hit man!! "You have the wrong girl! You have the wrong girl. BANG" Bridget kills the assassin and realizes he was actually trying to kill Siobhan.Flash to Paris, Siobhan is actually alive and is trying to kill her sister, bitch.Oh yeah and the detective in charge of Bridget now thinks "Siobhan" knows something about her sister. Oh wait she is her sister. All this and more happened in the first episode. You know you want to watch it now! Combine all this redic drama with bad acting and a horrible script. Well that is the formula for an amazing TV show!moreless

  • QUOTES (19)

    • Gemma: (About the terrace design on the penthouse) You don't seem that excited. What's wrong I thought you live for this stuff.
Bridget: (As Siobhan) I do, I'm just tired. Andrew came home late last night.
Gemma: You're skinny and you're having sex.
      Bridget: No! We didn't.
Gemma: Last time I saw Henry naked was right before the twins turned three. Last Year! I think Henry's having an affair. I can't stand to look at him, let alone sleep next to him. Oh I can so use you and a Martini. Say you'll go out with me tonight.
      Bridget: I'd love to.
Gemma: Oh no wait, don't you have that thing?
      Bridget: What thing?
      Gemma: That fundraising thing.
      Bridget: Yes, I totally forgot.
Gemma: I'll be fine. I'll just, hook up with one of the workman. Sure contractors make more money than out of work novelists.

    • Gemma: (Commenting on Siobhan not knowing that it's Bridget) You look absolutly anorexic, you must share your secret.

    • Andrew: Have you lost weight?
      Bridget: Maybe a little.
      Andrew: You're too thin.

    • Andrew: (Bridget kisses Andrew as Siobhan) Well aren't you friendly.
      Bridget: It's been forever.
Andrew: Two weeks is hardly forever.

    • Bridget: Siobhan I don't wanna be the sister you have to pretend doesn't exist.

    • Victor: Well, what was your relationship like with Bridget Kelly?
Malcolm: That's one of the problems with being a sponsor, you get close.
      Victor: How close?
Malcolm: Lets just say I regret it.
      Victor: Do you love her?
Malcolm: That's none of your business.

    • Bridget: I think about Sean everyday.
Siobhan: I don't wanna talk about it.
Bridget: Will you just hear me out. Because of what I did.
Siobhan: Bridget stop. You're already forgiven. You just need to forgive yourself.

    • Bridget: I want you to know how sorry I am. For everything.
Siobhan: You already apologized in your letter.
Bridget: I know it's just making amends is.
      (Siobhan finishes her sentence).

    • Victor: You okay.
      Bridget: Not really.
Victor: Just get up on the stand and tell the judge what you saw. You were a witness to a crime you did nothing wrong. It'll be over before you know it.
Bridget: That's what I'm affraid of.
      Victor: Bridget we'll protect you.
Bridget: You don't get it, if Bodaway wants me dead, I'm dead. No one can protect me.

    • Malcolm: You shouldn't drink that so late, you'll have trouble sleeping.
Bridget: I have trouble with or without the coffee.
      Malcolm: Give me that.
Bridget: Oh, now you want my cookies?

    • Bridget: (walking into Henry's apartment) I'm not here to sleep with you.
Henry: Why? I'm here to sleep with you.
Bridget: Henry, you're my best friend's husband.
Henry: That never bothered you before.
      Bridget: Well, it does now.

    • Bridget: (referring to Henry's mistress) Do you have any idea who it might be?
Gemma: Well, I went through the list of usual suspects, but the trainer's gay, the maid's fat, the wife's best friend...(Bridget looks worried) I'm joking! Come on, you're so not his type.

    • Bridget: (On the phone to Malcolm) Siobhan killed herself. I don't know why she did it. I'm the only one that knows that she's dead. I saw a way out and I took it. I was so scared. The cops were after me, Bodaway was after me. I felt like I didn't have a choice. It was so easy Malcolm. I mean they all think I'm her. They all think I'm Siobhan.

    • Siobhan: So are you still, dancing?
Bridget: You mean stripping? Na but, I still work for tips. Waitressing.

    • Siobhan: Bridget listen Andrew doesn't exactly know about you.
      Bridget: About my visiting.
Siobhan: He doesn't know I have a sister.

    • Bridget: Your life seems perfect.
Siobhan: Close to it, no ones life is perfect.

    • Siobhan: Looking at Bridget I was wondering how you'd look after six years.
Bridget: Not nearly as good as you.

    • Victor: Is that your boyfriend or sponsor?
      Bridget: Malcolm? Sponsor but. Sponsor

    • Bridget: My name is Bridget. And I'm an addict.
      AA Group: Hi Bridget.
Bridget: I've been sober for six months. Which is longer than some of the relationships that I've had. Things have been tense, its been really hard to stay clean. But I am. I finally got a response from my sister Siobhan, she wants me to come visit, stay as long as I want. I'm not sure I'm ready for that. For family I mean. I'm OK but, I'm not that OK. I just keep reminding myself, mistakes aren't tragedies but... (joined by the AA group) Please higher power help me learn from them.
