Season 1 Episode 2

Conflict Of Interest

Aired Tuesday 9:00 PM Jan 10, 1984 on NBC

  • Trivia

    • From this episode on, the Roboz has "eyes"--Murray had not yet added them in the pilot. The exact design and function of the eyes varies in different episodes, suggesting Murray constructed more than one pair.

    • The card that Murray hands Tina when she arrives at the Riptide reads 'Pier 56 Detective Agency', proving that the business wasn't called the 'Riptide Detective Agency' at this stage.

    • When the Roboz arrives with a glass of water for the upset Tina, it spills over Murray's left leg. Yet, a few shots later, it is his right leg that is wet and Murray is drying.

    • Nitpick: When Murray sends the Roboz off to get a glass of water for the upset Tina, the bulky contraption manages to make it down the steps inside the Riptide and back again, yet the Roboz doesn't even have legs (it seems to move on rollers)! Not to mention that it gets the water and returns in amazingly quick time.

Not only that, but repeatedly through the episode, the Roboz is again suddenly holding the glass which seemingly appears out of nowhere – and full of water!

  • Notes

    • German Title: Gangstern auf der Spur

    • This episode gives some background as to one of the reasons Quinlan hates the PIs so much – Nick mentions that he once got into a fight with him after he made a move on the girl Nick was with. (This was the only time it was mentioned in the series)
Quinlan is here played at his most arrogant and dislikable. He eats at a strip bar, and even gets into a brawl with Cody; while always remaining a somewhat arrogant, these extremes of the character were generally toned down as the series progressed.
