I used to watch this when the series originally ran, it premiered on Channel 5 (WNYW) on the East coast at 8pm & was a half hour serial. I became quickly engrossed in the storylines & loved the characters, it was a refreshing continuing drama that deserved to endure well beyond the year that it was on the air.
Most soaps that are syndicated don't seem to go on for years like the network ones do, & much of the reason is due to various broadcast times throughout the country through different affiliates who schedule the programs at a certain time. Unfortunately this was the case with this show. Rituals was high octane soap opera with an outstanding cast, but the fact that the time slot kept being sandwiched around was an impediment to its success. The 8pm broadcast in my area was brief & the station changed the airing to 11:30am for a short period & then finally it was sheduled at ridiculous hours like 3:15am & 3:40am, etc... until it's eventual cancellation. I was disappointed in the show being taken off because I looked forward to watching any chance I got at the point it was shown at that hour, but my viewings were few & far between as there were no VCR's in our family back then & so there was no way i'd get to see what was happening on the show. I have longed to see Rituals again for years & hope it's rerun at some point, i'd definitely tape & add the show to my collection, it is one of the greatest soaps of all time, syndicated & otherwise.
Andrea Moar was wonderful as Julia Chapin in this show as she had been as Carrie Sanders in AMC. She remains one of my fave soap stars growing up. Karen Kelly was great as Noelle & I fondly remember her as well in this as did I look forward to Monte Markham & Christine Jones as Carter & Christina Robertson, they were always bickering & did it beautifully!
Note: Before Rituals debuted, there was an article in one of the soap mags that had a publicity photo of Philece Sampler (Lacy) & Barbara Crampton wearing boxing gloves & the ad implied they were adversaries apparently, the funny thing is that Barbara wasn't in the series at all! I have always wondered why she had been in that publicity shot. Interesting!
I wish someone would bring it to DVD if it isn't picked up in reruns anytime soon, it was a fabulous show, no doubt.
