    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • During the first fight with La Carniceria, Darren McGavin's stunt double has noticeably longer hair and a distinctive lantern jaw, making him look very little like Grey Holden.

    • QUOTES (7)

      • Grey: Well, now, even if your father is a colonel, now that doesn't mean you have to be cruel to civilians.
Lucy: Some civilians can be dangerous.
Grey: Well, now, what if I joined the Army and got tamed?

      • Cortilla: You have not told me your name, senor.
Grey: I'm Captain Grey Holden of the riverboat Enterprise.
        Cortilla: I shall remember it.
        Grey: Eh, why?
Cortilla: Perhaps one day I shall want to ride on the riverboat. I shall choose no one else's boat but yours.
Bill: I suppose you'll want to book the deluxe cabin, eh?
Matson: If you ever ride down the river, mister, it'll be in a pine box.

      • Grey: Okay, generale, consider yourself my prisoner.
Cortilla: Or, uh, is it the other way around?

      • Lucy: Lieutenant, I know you exactly one day and you're already proposing marriage.
Lt. Winslow: Army tactics. You think you can take an objective, don't wait for reinforcements.
Lucy: They must have changed the manual while I was away at school.

      • Grey: Do you know, that's what I like about this business. You meet such interesting people along the river.
Bill: Like, uh, Cortilla. He's very interesting, all right. So's a snake. Never know when he's going to strike.

      • Grey: You need me to run the boat.
Cortilla: That is not the only reason I need you, La Capitan. A riverboat captain has many uses.
        Grey: Uh huh.
Cortilla: He's in command of a boat. He's also in command of human destinies. Brings a boat and a harbor together, and he can do the same for a man and a woman.

      • Carney: I'm for rushin' 'em.
        Grey: What? Tools against guns?
Carney: Well, the tools are better than nothin' against guns!
