      • Grey: I'll get him.
Joshua: I wouldn't worry about it, Captain. If they don't show up, I'll take charge of 'em for you.
        Grey: You'll take charge?
Joshua: Well, who do you think built the Erie Canal?
Grey: Oh, for crying out... who did?
Joshua: Oh, it was a man named Skinner, I think.
        Grey: That's what I thought.

      • Pickalong: Stopped in the saloon, heard some workmen came but they were scared away.
Grey: Yeah, I heard that. I don't believe it.
Joshua: In the future I'll take care of them like they were my own lads.
Grey: You mean they won't be? You take credit for everything else in the Mississippi Valley.
Joshua: I'll let you know that when I see 'em.

      • Joshua: I'll bet she'll learn rather quickly if you were teaching her.
Grey: Oh, don't be ridiculous, Joshua. She's a married woman.
Joshua: Eh, a married woman neglected by her husband. That's trouble.
Grey: Yeah, well in that case, you better watch out. You know how irresistible you are to women.

      • Tracy: The trouble with being a woman, Captain, is that we're not permitted to be useful. Just decorative.

      • Grey: What's the trouble between you and your husband?
Tracy: I'm married to a dedicated man, Captain. His job comes first and I come second. Well maybe it's time that he came second with me.
Grey: If your husband neglects you, he's a fool. But don't ask me to be a bigger fool.
