The Quota
AIRED:

Army Sgt. Dan Phillips is trying to recruit new members for his platoon. Using a convincing argument - a hit on the head - he has filled all but two spots in his quota. And he has eyes on Phelan, one of Grey's crewmen, for one of those spots.

      • Grey: Are you telling me that he got drunk and you're trying to protect him?
        Sgt. Phillips: Yes, sir.
Grey: First time you saw him, you wanted to break his head.
Sgt. Phillips: That was before he bought me a drink. We got to be pretty good buddies before he passed out.
Grey: Liquor doesn't seem to affect you any.
Sgt. Phillips: Captain, if I couldn't hold my liquor better then that man of yours, I'd have lost these stripes a long time ago.

      • Sgt. Phillips: Listen. What's so wrong with the Army, anyway? It's a good life. You get food and clothing, and a place to sleep. And you got friends. When I was a kid, I got kicked from pillar to post. Nobody wanted me. I never had a home before I got in the Army. It's good for a man, it gives him a purpose.

      • Sgt. Phillips: Well? Learn anything out there in that sun?
        Grey: Yeah, I learned something.
        Sgt. Phillips: What?
Grey: I learned that if I hold out long enough, I can beat you.
Sgt. Phillips: You know, you'd make a good soldier, mister. Good as me.
        Grey: Better.

      • Joshua: You think he's got anything?
        Bill: Who?
Joshua: Captain Holden. You think he'll have a cargo waiting in the dock?
Bill: Huh, he'll have a cargo, don't you worry about him. Only the good lord knows what it'll be.
