  • Poor showing.

I thought this was one of the weaker efforts of the season. Just look at the picture. The contrived bit of humor from their foundation's acronym being P.U.K.E. was just too cheesy for a show walking the fine line of trying to be a serious crime drama.

The revenge storyline actually worked quite well for me, I think it just suffered in the implementation. With the first shooting victim going down conveniently in front of Rizzoli & Isles at the 3 mile mark, Rizzoli makes the call to get the vic off the track and into a medical tent. When reporting to headquarters she informs them with 25,000 people downtown there is no way to get help in or for them to get out. That is until they locate the potential third victim and she runs back out on the course and is instantly at mile 25 of the marathon. If it was that easy to move around, then why didn't they earlier? Maybe a bit picky but I like it real.moreless

This was one of my least favorite episodes. First, P.U.K.E. really, that was a bad joke that shouldn't have been told. And then you add Isles wearing duck feet looking shoes, which I've never EVER seen in my life. I probably wouldn't be caught dead in shoes that looked like that. I liked the story line, but some of it made me wince and think twice about things. I liked the concept of payback for her dead sister, but I wish just this once the killer would have gotten away with it. That being said, I think the two dead dudes got off easy. If it had been me, I would have kidnapped them one by one and tortured them til I decided that it was enough. Then I would have killed them while saying her name the whole time. I would want her name to be the last thing they heard.moreless

I was thinking about giving up on Rizzoli and Isles, but after a strong episode like this I am definitely not going to be doing that. Tonight was the best episode of the series, without question and it was a unique storyline, with the team having to help murdered men in the middle of the race while avoiding panic. It had a very NCIS special episode feel to it, and was just well-written from start to finish. I was following along, I was making my prediction and I was just glad to be watching the show.

Two thumbs up for Rizzoli and Isles tonight. Now give us some more like this.moreless

    • Maura Isles: (while they are running) Cramp?
Jane Rizzoli: No, a blister. My right heel is killing me.
Maura Isles: Too much heel. Your forefoot should absorb the shock. Strike, forefoot, toes. Strike, forefoot, toes. Strike...
Jane Rizzoli: That's enough, jog whisperer.

    • Jane Rizzoli: (looking at Maura's running shoes with toes) You didn't tell me we were running as mallard ducks.
Maura Isles: Well, I haven't built up my foot muscles, you know, to the point where I can run barefoot.
Jane Rizzoli: We'll chip in and buy you some shoes.
Maura Isles: Well, early humans ran very comfortably without shoes. Research has proven that the barefoot strike pattern is much less stressful.
Jane Rizzoli: You, talking Google ... stressful.
