The fourth episode of Rizzoli and Isles pretty much sets the tone for what this series is going to be: a really average cop show. I thought it would be a little different after a strong pilot, but now, four episodes in, it has become clear this is more like a hybrid of NCIS and Bones than a unique concept in itself.

Angie Harmon almost looked like she did not want to be there with the phoned in performance here tonight.

Rizzoli and Isles is doing huge numbers for TNT, obviously better than they could have anticipated, but the show has more drivel than meaningful content at this juncture.moreless
  • Enjoying it, BUT

I am still enjoying this new series, but this last episode was little played out plot-wise. College girls hooking to earn tuition has been done.. To death. Seriously. I actually enjoyed Lorraine Bracco this episode. She was funny, a little meddlesome, but toned down from previous shows. Which is good, because she can get real anooying really fast. I like Foster actually contributing to the case. Not enough Bruce McGill, but still :) Most of my issues with this episode was the plot was a little easy to see thru. The title was silly & let you know the whole story line right off the bat. The final show down seemed a little off to me too. the swift way he turmned a gun on the girl in the middle of the crowd. Strangely stupid for someone who was running a hooker ring from his dorm room.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • As Rizzoli, Angela, and Isles pull up to the crime scene, Isles can be seen wearing her seat belt. When turning around to respond to Angela in the backseat her seat belt is then off, only to be back on again in the next shot of her.

    • Bruce McGill mispronounces the city of Wilkes-Barre, PA. It is pronounced by locals as Wilkes-Berry or Wilkes-Bear.

  • QUOTES (8)

    • Angela Rizzoli: Your father's going to kill me.
Jane Rizzoli: Tell him not to do it when I'm on call.

    • Jane Rizzoli: I applied to BCU.
Maura Isles: It's very hard to get into.
      Jane Rizzoli: I got in.
Maura Isles: Why didn't you go?
Jane Rizzoli: Wanted to be a cop.
Maura Isles: What's the real reason?
Jane Rizzoli: My father would have spent everything to send me there. I couldn't do that to him.
Maura Isles: Did you ever tell him?
Jane Rizzoli: Nope. That would make him too sad.

    • Jane Rizzoli: So, what was it like working on a live victim?
      Maura Isles: Terrifying. And exhilarating.

    • Maura Isles: (about the victim's candlelight vigil being held at BCU) I'd like to come with you, pay my respects, maybe help you look for the bad guy. They like to see the results of their work. I know because I had two years of forensic psychiatry.
Jane Rizzoli: It took you two years to figure out that bad guys were screwed up?

    • Jane Rizzoli: Dr. Maura Isles, knuckle-deep in germy bar snacks. I'm shocked.
Maura Isles: Oh, I had representative samples tested. Bacteria count fell within acceptable limits. You want one? (she holds out the bowl)
Jane Rizzoli: It must be very complicated to be you.
Maura Isles: You have no idea.

    • Jane Rizzoli: I try not to have regrets... But, I don't know. When I was on that campus, I... I felt like I missed out.
Maura Isles: Jane, you're a bright, accomplished woman.
Jane Rizzoli: I peeked in the library. All the things I could have known if I'd gone to college. Something about being there was... It was inspiring, you know?
Maura Isles: But you know more about human beings than anyone I know.
      Jane Rizzoli: Bad human beings.
Maura Isles: We're all a mix of good and bad.

    • Jane Rizzoli: (talking about college) Did you play sports?
      Maura Isles: Ballet and fencing.
      Jane Rizzoli: Those aren't sports.
Maura Isles: Yes, they are. What did you play?
Jane Rizzoli: Field hockey. I was an attacker.
Maura Isles: I'm sure you were very aggressive.
Jane Rizzoli: "Attacker" is a position.

    • Angela Rizzoli: So, you know, I never told you, but I'd be really good at solving cases.
Maura Isles: Well, the forensic sciences can be quite complicated.
Angela Rizzoli: A little common sense goes a long way. I've read so many crime novels, and I always know who did it.
Jane Rizzoli: Thank you, Agatha Christie. (to her mother, on her way out of the car) Stay in the car.
Angela Rizzoli: I won't embarrass you.
Jane Rizzoli: Thirty years of experience says otherwise.
