    The episode, well...it was disappointing...

I'm rather peeved. I think this show had the opportunity to be original and hot, and so far, it has. There were a few similarities between Rizzoli and Isles and other crime shows, but that's bound to happen. This episode, however, took the similarities to a new level.

Hmm. Hot female scientist raised by someone other than her parents discovers that her father was a criminal. This is starting to sound similar.... Oh, but wait! It gets BETTER! The said criminal father kills the man that's gunning after his children in order to send a message to other bad guys: Stay away from my family! Really, now, writers of R&I. Did you HAVE to totally rip off Bones? You've considerably closed the gap of differences between Dr. Maura Isles and Dr. Temperance Brennan. A little originality couldn't hurt. There are a thousand ways you could have explained Maura's being an adopted child. What if her parents were murdered? Or her teen mother gave her up for adoption? Or her surgeon father was brutally murdered for a fatal surgery, and her grieving mother committed suicide? Or.... This show has the potential to be a great one, with many seasons. Let it stand on its own, please.moreless
  • Maura the daughter of an Irish crime boss?!

I know that following the books would be difficult for a weekly TV series but some of the changes are so 'out there' that it becomes difficult to even just "suspend reality" to watch for the entertainment value only. The acting is good although I preferred Sasha Alexander's role in NCIS as Kate to the role she is now playing. She comes across as stupid even though she is a genius...almost as if the writers are trying to make her character resemble Temperance Brennan on Bones. I also have a hard time with Maura being a doctor and being so BAD at doing ANY medical procedure on a live person. I hope next season makes her a little more normal. She can be smart without acting like a dummy.moreless

Rizzoli and Isles will conclude its first season next week, and what a year it has been. I thought this show would do decent numbers, but no one, no one could have predicted it would become the smash hit it has consistently getting over 7 million viewers. R and I has been good, this episode was fine, but it did not blow me away like some of the previous episodes (with Jane's attacker and the Massachusetts Marathon.)

It seems like they are having the characters get attacked or entrenched too quickly, and by that I mean that this was another episode that dealt with Maura's past. You do not have to do this all in one season, pace yourself writers.moreless
