When Rizzoli first encounters Hoyt in the hospital, he directs her attention to a book on the table near his bed, and he tells her how he loves murder mysteries. The book is The Silent Girl by Tess Gerritsen published in July 2011. It is the ninth book in the Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles series of novels which are the basis for this TV series
Goof: Dr. Maura Isles determines that the murder victim could not be baby John Doe's biological mother because of her blood type. She states that the baby's blood type is O and the victim's is A and that it is therefore impossible for her to be his mother. This is a false conclusion.
Blood type is inherited and determined by the presence or absence of A and B antigens on the surface of red blood cells. A and B are dominant traits while O is recessive and represents the absence of either antigen.
If the father is type A, B or O then the child could be hers. The only way to conclude that it would not be possible would be if Dr. Isles knew that the father's blood type was AB. At this point in the episode, Dr. Isles did not know who the baby's father was.
In the scene where Angela is selling bottles of fruit juice she gives two bottles to Frankie Jr. The first bottle she gives contains red juice while the bottle on the table closest to her contains blue liquid. When she gives him the second bottle, she picks up the bottle closest to her which now contains red juice, while the colour of the liquid in first bottle already in Frankie's hand suddenly has changed to blue.
As Rizzoli, Angela, and Isles pull up to the crime scene, Isles can be seen wearing her seat belt. When turning around to respond to Angela in the backseat her seat belt is then off, only to be back on again in the next shot of her.
Bruce McGill mispronounces the city of Wilkes-Barre, PA. It is pronounced by locals as Wilkes-Berry or Wilkes-Bear.
