Robin and Marian seem closer than ever and you wonder if they might even make a viable couple, but ultimately the truth becomes more and more evident and then ultimately hits us over the head with the fact that these two cannot and should not get together and that Isabella really is ultimately not made of the stuff that Robin and his crew and presumably Marian (although I have not seen those episodes) was. Ultimately, Isabella asks R to make a choice between a life with her and saving Kate (aka doing the right and heroic thing). Of course we know which one he will choose...moreless
