Season 1 Episode 12

The Misses Dubois Turn Out the Lights

Aired Friday 10:30 PM Jul 22, 2005 on CTV

  • Trivia

    • (seeing a brown and pink hamster on the table)
Yuri: Where did you come from, little fellow?

The hamster that Yuri finds is Bushy-Bush, Alicia's pet that she lost in the episode Educating Alicia when Hal left the cage door open.

    • When Nick knocks on the Dubois sisters' apartment door to return the playing card, we can see that the number on the door is #223. However, when he picked up the card outside, he clearly looked at a window on the first floor; also, when Pauline throws herself out the window and lands in the dumpster, Bea, who is still inside the apartment, talks to her from a first floor window. In fact, the Dubois sisters live in apartment #106.

    • When Pauline Dubois arrives at Hal and Nick's apartment to retrieve the candy bowl, the program on TV that Hal was watching was a talk show with Nellie the Performing Pig with her owner Priscilla Valentine.

  • Quotes

    • Pauline: You know that defunct washing machine?
      Yuri: Uh.
      Pauline: Can you fix that?
Yuri: It wouldn't be the first time.

    • Nick: Humbugs! God, I haven't seen these since I was... like, uh...

    • (looking through photo albums)
      Nick: Who's the soldier?
      Bea: Oh, that's my fiance.
Pauline: No, it was my fiance.
Bea: Pauline, Harold didn't propose to you.
      Pauline: He was about to!
      (uncomfortable silence)
Nick: So, uh, where's Harold now?
Pauline: He went and got himself killed liberating France.

    • Pauline: Where have you been?
Bea: I just went over to see Eunice.
Pauline: Eunice! And how is she?
      Bea: Oh, she's fine.
Pauline: Amazing you got back so fast, considering she's in Palm Springs.

    • Pauline: What did my sister want?
      Yuri: Sister?
Pauline: Don't buffalo me. I know where you live... I OWN where you live!

    • (Bea has just told Pauline that she's dying)
Pauline: Our entire lives, you've gone first. First to lose a tooth; first kiss, first boyfriend; first to lose your cherry. First in mother's heart. I'm the oldest! It was supposed to be me!
Bea: Pauline, don't do this to yourself.
Pauline: Well, you're not going to get away with it again! I'm dying first! (she goes to the window)

    • Bea: Nick, dear, this is for you.
Nick: Uh, wow, I can't take your candy bowl.
Bea: Yes, you can! Humbugs from a humbug.
Mad Child: Don't refuse candy from strangers, man!
Nick: Well, jeez, Miss Dubois, this is too nice! Thanks.

    • Pauline: I want my dish back.
      (Hal looks confused)
Pauline: My mother's lead crystal bowl. She left her things to both of us; it wasn't Bea's to give.
      Hal: Uh...
Pauline: I know you have it!
Hal: Nick's not here right now.
Pauline: Hand it over, Weed-head, or I'll call the cops!

    • (Pauline is lying on her bed, surrounded by pills and pill bottles)
Bea: This is a Tic Tac! Pauline, really! Death by breath mint? This has got to stop... I'm not playing any more. (she walks out of the room)

    • (Pauline and Bea are arguing)
Bea: Hogwash! You just couldn't stand the fact that once in a while, people chose me over you. And you always made me feel guilty about it.
Pauline: If you felt guilty, it's because you were guilty!
Bea: Yes, I'm guilty! Guilty of putting up with you all these years!
Salesman #1: If we could discuss flowers...
Bea: And now I'm dying, and you're doing your best to make me feel guilty about that too. Like it's all part of my evil plan... I'm going to die just so I can show you up! (she leaves in tears)
Salesman #2: If I could just get a deposit...
      Pauline: Get out! (he leaves)
      Salesman #1: Flowers...
Pauline: Get out! (he also leaves)

    • Pauline: I don't want you to go... you're my life.
      Bea: And you're mine.
