  • Both of these episodes really made me laugh a lot.

    9.1
In "Bye Bye Birdie" Filburt asks Rocko to take care of his pet bird named Turdy while he's gone. So Rocko and Heffer watched after Turdy but Turdy is causing problems to Rocko a lot. So Rocko chained Turdy to his nose and he lied on the couch like a lump. The parts I loved was when Heffer jumped on the couch where Turdy is lying and then he realized he accidentally killed Turdy and they were both screaming and Turdy was stuck to Heffer's butt and he was running around and Heffer was playing with the dead bird which I found that hilarious. When Turdy is dead, they don't want to tell Filburt about it but Filburt came back to pick up Turdy but Rocko tells the truth to Filburt but Filburt told rocko that Turdy's lifespan is 3 weeks. Later there was a guy that got rids of a box that is filled with monkey-bird hybrids and Filburt was happy now.

In "Belch of Destiny" Heffer and Filburt are in the Weasel Scouts and there is a talent show that if their troop wins, they can go to Astro Camp. Heffer has a talent which is burping and that was also hilarious to me. At the talent show , Heffer and Filburt's troop won and they are going to Astro Camp. Heffer's Dad didn't like Heffer's burping talent, he's thinks it's wrong and Heffer doesn't want to go to Astro Camp, so he stays home. At Astro Camp, the scouts miss Heffer, so one of the scouts named Teddy takes control of the spaceship and went back to Heffer's place. Later Heffer's Dad wanted to apologize to Heffer and he says it's ok for a while and the scouts are happy to see Heffer's coming with them to Astro Camp.moreless
  • Two great toons that taste great together! :D

Once again, the brillant mind of Joe Murray does something that only he can do and comes up with not one, but two great cartoon episode segments! Far too often, I see cartoons where one of the three or two segments being shown is great but the other segment/s...not so much. But not this one. This was the time when "Rocko's Modern Life" was at its zenith, being funny and being moralistic without ever getting to serious. And the best part of everything is that Joe Murray figured out something that John K. didn't and realized that Nickelodeon actually had no moral rules to follow so he just did whatever he wanted before Nickelodeon came down with a sledgehammer in season 4 and made up the riduclous rule that you couldn't say the word "die" and forced Joe Murray to change the name of the restaurant Heffer and Rocko ate at from the Chokey' Chicken to the Chewy Chicken, but even these restrictions couldn't keep this great show down. This cartoon was golden all the way. This is one great show that deserves to be saluted! :Dmoreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • In Bye Bye, Birdie, Nickelodeon's infamous "Don't Say Dead" rule is broken a few times, for Rocko, Heffer and Filburt say "dead" at a few points.

    • While Rocko and Heffer are watching TV, the couch is against the wall with the window. But when Heffer comes out of the bathroom and jumps on Turdy, you can clearly see that it is not against the wall anymore.

    • In the first two seasons, the diner where the characters always eat is "Chokey Chicken", which has a giant choking chicken as a mascot. In the third season, "Chokey Chicken" became "Chewy Chicken".

    • How come, in Belch of Destiny, George Wolfe (Heffer's father) calls Heffer's mother "Ma" when her name is Virginia.

  • QUOTES (11)

    • (Filburt, Heffer and Rocko lay a grave into a cloud and bury Turdy in it)
Filburt: I'm so glad we did this. Turdy always told me he wanted to be buried at sky.

    • Rocko: Heffer! The bird is DEAD! This is something, you're going to have to, ACCEPT!
      Heffer: NO!!! (sobs)
      Rocko: Heffer, please listen.
Heffer: No I won't believe it!
Rocko: Look here in the book...
Rocko and Heffer: How to tell if your bird is dead.
Heffer: (looking between the book and Turdy) Mm-hm. Oh yeah. Mm-HM. He's dead alright!

    • Heffer: (playing with dead Turdy) Chirp chirp! I'm fit as a fiddleee! I think I'll fly away! No maybe I'll sing a song! No . . . maybe I'll eat bugs!

    • Rocko: Heffer, what are you doing up there?
Heffer: (sitting on a telephone line) I'm eatin' my lunch.

    • Heffer: (belching in the mirror) Roses are reeeed. This burp is for yoooooou. You talkin' to me? I said you talkin' to me? I am Burpman, gimme a merrit badge. Gimme a merrit badge nooooooooooow!

    • Filbert: Oh Rocko, terrible news!
      Rocko: Oh?
Filbert: The doctors couldn't find anything wrong with me. Fools!

    • (after Turdie has been buried in a cloud)
Filburt: Heffer, would you like to say something?
Heffer: Um..."Beans, beans, they're good for your heart/The more you eat--"
Filburt: Alright, that's enough of that. Rocko, would you like to say a few words?
Rocko: Um, yes. Uh, now let's see, um, yeah. Ur, Turdie...was...um...bird.
Filburt: (burst into tears) Oh! That's so beautiful!

    • Heffer: Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet...THIS BELCH IS FOR YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!

    • Heffer: Uh...roses are violet...no, wait! Violets are...NOOOO...

    • Heffer: Weasels! (belching) Give me a merit badge now!

    • Filburt: (with two hamburger buns in his eyes) Hey, pal, get your "buns" out of my eyes.

  • NOTES (4)

    • Although Dr. Hutchison appears in "Bye Bye Birdie" and has dialogue, she is uncredited. They instead credited Linda Wallem as Virginia Wolf, who appeared in "Belch of Destiny."

    • When Hef is trying to convince Rocko that Filburt's bird is still alive, the bird ends up looking like Bernie in the movie Weekend At Bernie's.

    • The "belch track" was done by a guy from Warner Brothers.

    • The scene in Bye, Bye Birdie when Heffer is trying to convice Rocko Turdy is still alive is a reference to a Monthy Python sketch The Dead Parrot.

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • The scene with the dead body of Turdy placed on a small surfboard on a record could be a reference to the 1963 song Surfin' Bird by the Trashmen (a.k.a. Bird is the Word).

    • One of John Lennon's most famous songs is Give Peace a Chance. "Give Heff a Chance" uses the same tune and the same words, replacing "peace" with "Heff."

    • Visual: Opening Shot

The opening shot of the episode of "Bye, Bye Birdie" has a bunch of blackbirds sitting on a telephone wire. This is a reference to Alfred Hitchcock's classic film The Birds (1963).

    • Title: Bye, Bye Birdie

The episode title, "Bye, Bye Birdie," is a reference to the 1963 movie by the same name. The film was adapted from a 1960 Broadway musical.
