  • Possibly the best episode so far, in my opinion. It had a bit of everything: it was funny, it was sad, there was action, there was drama, and I'm guess this is just the beginning.moreless

I think what I love the most about this show is how everyone has a story, and what's more, not all of them have come out yet. We have our rookies: the tortured main character who rarely lets people get close to her, the funny dork with the broken family, the mean skank with issues of her own that we haven't really gotten into, the good catholic boy who seems to want to break free of that image, and the single mother who tries to do everything at once without any help. And even the older officers and detectives have their stories. Bullet Proof gave us glimpses into some of those stories. From Diaz and Peck's first homocide solved on their own (and their celebration afterwards) to Nash and Williams' heart to heart about being mothers and women on the force. We get a peek at the "real" Callaghan that Swarek was telling Andy about during the previous week's episodes as well as some more of the "real" Swarek seeing and possibly getting closer to the "real" Andy. And there was the story of Benny, the not-so-gangster gangster who tried to do right with what he had. You grow to like certain characters even more, and others even less in this episode and, for a summer show, or for any show for that matter, I am really loving this. Definitely a must-watch episode. I see things continuing to unravel in the following episodes.moreless

    • Andy McNally: (returning keys) Thank you, for the car.
Sam Swarek: Heard about your witness.
Andy McNally: Yeah, he was never a witness. He was always just evidence. It's, uh, this job is ... I guess, I just have to get used to it, right?
Sam Swarek: (nods) You need anything? (shakes her head) Wanna go for a drink? Need a ride home?
Andy McNally: No. I just need to ... actually, what do you know about plumbing?
Sam Swarek: (laughing) Jump in. Can't wait to see where this is going.

    • Oliver Shaw: Are you coming for a drink, pal? (Sam shakes his head) You're still feeling it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Stare of the dog my friend, it's the only cure.
Sam Swarek: (laughing) Ya. No, I'm just waiting for my keys. And you my friend ought to go straight home, go to bed.
Oliver Shaw: Yeah. You're taking care of everybody today. (sees Andy approaching) Are you, are you waiting for your rookie?
Sam Swarek: No. I told you, I'm waiting for my keys.
Oliver Shaw: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, uh, Sammy, training officers and rookies can't ... (Sam gives him a questioning look) I'm gonna go, I'll be at the Penny, if you wanna get anything.

    • Sam Swarek: (after Andy and Benny were shot at in front of his house) McNally, how you doing?
      Andy McNally: Good.
Benjamin Kelley: Man, she saved my ass.
Sam Swarek: Yeah, she's got a lion's heart, this one.

    • Oliver Shaw: Hey pal, I thought Callaghan has your rookie today.
Sam Swarek: Yeah, well Callaghan's busy.
      Oliver Shaw: (Oliver smiles) Oh.
Sam Swarek: What? I'm helping her out.

    • Sam Swarek: I should really go with you.
Andy McNally: No, no, no, listen. I totally screwed this up and I need to fix it. So, just lend me the keys to your truck and I'll go look at the adress and then you can blow the whistle on me and ruin my entire career.
Sam Swarek: I'm sorry. You wanna borrow my truck?
Andy McNally: Okay, we can go and talk to Boyko right now. No problem.
Sam Swarek: (dangles the keys in front of her) Breaks are touchy, all right? Just careful?

    • Andy McNally: (calls Sam at the station) I need your help.
Sam Swarek: I thought you were with Callaghan.
Andy McNally: Yeah, well, he left me in charge of guarding some evidence. Well, it's a witness actually. It's a witness with some evidence.
Sam Swarek: McNally, I already have a headache.
Andy McNally: Look, I lost the witness, okay? And the doctor said he was going to be asleep for hours.
Sam Swarek: The doctor said? The doctor's not a cop. Where's Callaghan?
Andy McNally: Okay, listen, I gotta find this kid before Luke finds out that I lost him.
Sam Swarek: And I care because?
Andy McNally: You care because if Boyko finds out that I've screwed up this carjacking case, take a wild guess which Training Officer he's gonna drag into his office and scream at for half an hour.
Sam Swarek: Alright, alright. Calm down. What do you need?
Andy McNally: Okay, Luke brought in this kid, Benjamin Kelley, and all of his personal effects are in booking. See if you can find his cell phone. (Sam mutters in disbelief) Oh, and Luke took the car, so could you pick me up?
