I expected more from the second episode of rookie blue. After the first episode, we got to know the characters, but in the second episode they hardly portrayed them with more depth. If I'm allowed to make a comparison to let's say Mad Men, The Good Wife or Grey's Anatomy in which the audience already felt during the second episode that they knew the main characters. Unfortunately, I felt no such feeling with the rookies. Gail was hardly present in any of the two episodes (I had to look up her name). The two characters that fascinate me the most are Dov and Traci. This episode was too slow, or at least too little happened. Today, TV shows get more complicated with more storylines featuring different characters at once. This episode had two storylines, one character taking up one of them and the other 4 worked on the second. I had a hard time understanding what Swarek was actually up to and why would he possibly be so fascinated with this Emily girl when he could have arrested some sort of major drug dealer? In the end, catching the creepy snake tattoo guy seemed way too easy. I feel the writers could really have created tension, especially a competitive feeling, but they did not. If I had been Epstein, I'd have smashed Gail down when she tried to arrest the guy he'd chased down. On a side note, I hardly see any chemistry between McNally and Swarek. Also, so far I'm not particularly liking McNally, has she only got one face expression? I hope the next episodes get more fascinating, because this is too boring for my taste.moreless

    • Andy McNally: Hey! What's with the fake warrant?
Sam Swarek: It's only fake if they look.
Andy McNally: Listen, I'm trying to play by the rules, okay? I'm trying to play by your rules.
Sam Swarek: That's the thing, I don't actually have any rules. But hey, thanks for playing.

    • Andy McNally: (Andy follows Sam outside of the Black Penny to the parking lot to talk about Emily) You really gave up the whole case for her, huh?
Sam Swarek: Yeah, well, who knows what I gave up? Maybe nothing. Emily is smart that way.
Andy McNally: Were you scared in there?
      Sam Swarek: Yeah. You?
Andy McNally: No. I mean, you were there. (Andy gives Sam her hand and he shakes it)
Sam Swarek: Let me take you home. (Andy steps closer and smiles) McNally. (both move in for a kiss before Andy steps away)
Andy McNally: Uh, I can't, I can't, I can't do this. I'm sorry. It's just that this is my first week at work.
Sam Swarek: (stepping away from her) Well, yeah, like I said, you're not my type, right?
      Andy McNally: Disregard?
      Sam Swarek: Disregard.

    • Sam Swarek: (after being assigned as Andy's Training Officer and they're about to ride together for the first time) Okay, so, I'm sure you've had the talk. Partners, you back me up no matter what, don't move unless I tell you to, it's my car so my rules are the rules.
      Andy McNally: Yes, sir.
Sam Swarek: Good. So here is my addendum. I'm here because I rather work the streets than man the wire room until a spot in Guns and Gangs opens up and while I do like working the streets I did not ask to train a rookie, I did not ask to have a partner, I'm not your boyfriend, I will not be holding your hand.
Andy McNally: Well, that's great because I don't date cops anyway.
Sam Swarek: Sweetheart, you're not my type.

    • Sam Swarek: (Andy comes into the station with Oliver having just collared a guy) Oh, hello.
Andy McNally: Huh, you're in uniform?
Sam Swarek: Yeah, well, can't really work undercover now, everybody on the street knows I'm a cop. So, thanks for that. (turns to the guy Andy collared) Did she chase you down an alley and jump on you, too? Yeah, she does that. Sure he's not an undercover cop?
