An engrossing look at the world of the police officer fresh out of the academy.

The public relies on law enforcement for protection and safety. For many years, American viewers have had some good shows to let us see the things police officers have to go through, but none up until now have dealt specifically with just the first-year officers. "The Rookies" follows some new cops as they go to work on their normal assignments. Common sights include traffic stops, the hassles of getting suspects under control, and the quirks of getting used to working with more experienced officers. The show owes a lot to "Cops," as one might think, but this time around, the viewers as well as the officers profiled get to learn as they go. This is a good series, and I hope they keep it around.moreless
