  • Nigel Havers' Nominated Items: Global warming, dogs in cities, barbecues, budget airlines, conservatories

Paul Merton’s guest tonight is Nigel Havers, who recently revealed himself as an exemplary and eccentric misanthrope in Grumpy Old Men. Sadly, his performance tonight is more restrained. He would like to poison Ken Livingstone slowly with mercury. He doesn’t want dogs living in cities. He wants to ban all mobile phones in the theatre (“I would rather die than have my phone go off in the theatre — seriously”) and he demonstrates a patrician contempt for conservatories, barbecues and budget airlines. But in the absence of a posh bloke going publicly bonkers, the show is spiced up with hilariously awful clips of Ainsley Harriott and The Armstrongs, with Paul Merton also pointing out the similarity between barbecues and sodomy.

Very funny episode. Hardly any of his nominations went in, and the audience disagreed with most. His dislike of conservatories was slaughtered when Paul Merton showed an old advert for conservatories with Nigel doing the voice-over!moreless
