  • The episode where Becky joins Roseanne and Jackie as one of the women on the show.

    9.0
I thought that this episode showed a new maturity in the character of Becky, as well as in her relationship to Roseanne. Jacqui was cleverly used as a catalyst at the beginning of the episode. But by the end, during the scene in the kitchen where Becky reveals that she and Mark had already slept together, we saw that Becky and Roseanne could carry on this new relationship without Jackie to facilitate.

A also thought that this was one of the episodes where Roseanne and Jackie looked their best in the entire series. It was before Jackie went blonde and before Roseanne started to get too much work done on her face. They both looked natural and good for the ages they were.moreless

I thought this episode was so funny! At that time of the 90s people did not really talk about birth control on tv.Well lets just say roseanne changed that.Roseanne discussed so many topics on the show that no one else on tv was really talking about.I love the part after becky tells jackie and jackie gets her to tell roseanne. And when becky tells roseanne, roseanne's face is so funny and jackie is just looking back at roseanne in a really funny way. I also love the scene at the end between becky and roseanne. It really shows the mother and daughter bond. And that mother and daughter can talk about anything.moreless

A great season opener with Becky asking for birth control. As with all other episodes, it is well-written and realistic. The fact that she can come to her mom and ask for something (with Jackie's help) that is still so bleak. If only Roseanne was like other moms.

The best part is when Roseanne tells Dan, and Dan scares Mark a couple of times.
  • Becky seeks birth control.

For all the disfunction in the Conner household, the communication constantly amazes me. For all the manner in which Roseanne routinely puts her kids down, and dismisses any real future for her children, her children manage to approach her as they deal with the tough areas of life: in this case birth control, and later in the episode Becky gratuitously informs Roseanne that she and Mark already started.

I tend to be suspicious of TV shows that attempt to back-door a social message through humor. And I'm not sure that episodes such as this one is an attempt to show the up-side consequences of Roseanne's parenting techniques, thereby setting up the Conner household as a model, rather than a parody.

No, I will never endorse Roseanne's household model. I do tend to be impressed with the communication at times. I'm just not convinced that there is a connection.moreless
