  • Jackie the nut truly begins.

    10
This is the first time we really get to see the character of Jackie display her psychological problems. Years of being abuse and abandonment have shape Jackie into a lonely woman desperately looking for love and afraid of losing real love.

This was a perfect blend of realism and comedy of dealing with the issues of Jackie, unlike years later when they turn her into a joke. As did Roseanne, you want to reach out to Jackie but she is blinded by her own problems. This episode sets up her relationship with Fischer in 1992-1993 Season.

    A Great one!

    • Gary: (talking about Jackie) She-she's fun. She's sexy and she's bright. She's a little crazy, too, but, ya know, that's okay with me 'cuz I could use a little crazy in my life.
      Dan: She can provide that.

    • Gary: Jackie tells me you and Roseanne have been together since right out of high school.
Dan: Yeah, hard to believe. Twelve years of high school and you go out and do something completely stupid.

    • Jackie: (gloating over her new boyfriend) Gary's company is known for its good work. Gary's company has a reputaion.
Dan: Well, you two have a lot in common.

  • NOTES (0)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Roseanne: (to Jackie who's complaining that her new boyfriend doesn't know the "real" her) Maybe it's because you're acting like Gidget on an aphrodisiac for the past three weeks.

Roseanne is making an allusion to the 1950's movie, Gidget, about a teenage surfer-girl who discovers love one transient summer. The movie, starring Sandra Dee, was the inspiration for the 1960's television comedy series by the same name, and starred Sally Field.

    • Dan: (to Roseanne who's claiming to be only having a casual get-together with Jackie and her new boyfriend) Oh, ho, you're nosey, Alice! NOSEY!

Dan is making an allusion to Ralph Kramden and his wife, Alice, characters in the classic Jackie Gleason sit-com, The Honeymooners.
