This episode is, what I think of, as vintage Roseanne. I believe the show could've lasted 20 seasons had the writing stayed stable and remained suburb throughout, and if Roseanne's character was maintained.
When Roseanne, Dan, and Crystal are at the bridge at the end of this episode it is a prime example of the warmness that the television show, Roseanne conveyed. I love how Roseanne and Dan take Crystal to the bridge, and stand by and watch as she talks to Sonny. At the end, Roseanne puts her arm around her. The show was just beginning and hadn't hit it's heights yet, but this is what I think of when I think of Roseanne. Crystal eventually disappears from the show which is odd if you watch this episode and feel the importance Crystal was to the family. I think this says a lot for how the show progressed through the years. Had the show continued in a similar fashion, Crystal never would have not been continued as a semi-regular character on the show. She was their good family friend! This is the original show that had the potential and should have been capitalized on and preserved over the years. Roseanne was great, superb, but it could've been close to perfect!moreless
Crystal struggles to cope with the death of her husband, who is buried in the bridge that Jackie drove them over on the way to work. Roseanne struggles with the secret that she knows about Sonny, that she wants to tell Crystal. Darlene decides it's cool to smoke, until Roseanne finds her pack of cigarettes.moreless
