  • Dan shows that his is the absolute epitomy of what a real MAN is!!!

    10
I am a HUGE Roseanne fan, and this episode is my absolute favorite of all!!! The writers have always done an amazing job of portraying Dan as the down-to-earth, gruff but loveable and identifiable character, but in this episode the writers have elevated the character to hero status without making it seem hokey... Moreover, John Goodman absolutely out-does himself with just his facial expressions alone! To this day, this episode makes me want to find a husband just like Dan; the kind of man who takes charge and makes damn sure some justice is done on behalf of his sister-in-law! Absolutely and indescribably everything that should define a "GOOD MAN".moreless
  • What an awesome episode! My most favorite in the fifth season of Roseanne!

    9.8
I thought this episode in Roseanne was unbelieveably awesome! Three good and not so good and interesting things happened. D.J gets caught reading obscene reading material, which happens to be Darlene's comic book, at school. And then Dan figures out that Fisher, Jackie's boyfriend, hit and injured Jackie and so Darlene figures out and then goes and tells Roseanne and she decides that she should take Jackie to the hospital to get it looked at. And once Dan figures out what had happened to Jackie he goes over to Fisher's apartment and gives him a little "man talk" but it doesnt turn out that way he ends up punching Fisher in the face and Fisher's next door neighbor calls the police and they have to arrest Dan and have to get $100.00 to bail him out. This is definitely a must-see episode, it is one of the best of the whole series!moreless
  • This is why I love Dan.

    10
I just loved the episode Crime and Punishment. Jackie begins to exhibit many of the signs of domestic abuse. But I didn't see it coming. It was a complete shock to me when Darlene discovered the reason that Jackie had been so reclusive.

But perhaps my favourite part was Dan's reaction. He really stepped up to the plate and protected his family. And we see that dispite all of his teasing, he would do anything for Jackie. It really showed the kind of man that he is. He knows that his behavior is criminal and had a consequence, and he didn't try to fight it. Gave me a new respect for his character, the writing and the social relevence of this show.moreless
  • One of the best

    10
A two-part episode, this has to be one of the best written episodes on the show. Jackie getting beaten by her boyfriend Fisher, and Dan going to beat him up. What I really liked about this episode was the way that there was another story intwined in the episode: DJ bringing "obscene material" to school, which was Darlene's. Even funnier was the way the school administration reacted to Dan showing up to the school and they all assumed that he was dead.moreless
  • It was an amzing episode, full of surprise, comedy, and courage. Roseanne obviously loves Jackie very much. So, obviously, does Dan. I was very surprised to find out that it was Fisher who had done that to her. I guess that shows that even loved ones canmoreless

    9.0
This episode was a beautiful example of the bond between siblings. Roseanne obviously cares for Jackie, as does Dan. It was shocking, touching, and surprising. This was an episode that could bring a family together. If this episode was this good, then obviously the second part should be just as good.

    • Dan: I mean, we had underground comics in our day, but they were nothing like this. Ours were about depraved sex and drug abuse. THIS is a cry for help!

    • (Dan has been called into DJ's principal's office because he brought offensive material to school. The principal finally slides the offending object over to Dan)
Dan: DJ you brought a comic book to school? (relieved) Good boy. Good, good boy.

    • Darlene: (referring to the bath beads broken apart in her back pockets, a prank pulled by D.J.) I'm walking around school and everybody's pointing at my butt and laughing. For a moment I knew the pain of being Becky.

    • Roseanne: You come over here, your back's all bruised up, you won't tell me nothing, how do I know that you didn't get raped or mugged or something? Does Fisher know about this?
Jackie: W---why can't you just leave it alone?
Roseanne: That son of a bitch!

    • Darlene: What's wrong with Aunt Jackie?
Roseanne: Some say environment but I think she was born that way.
Darlene: Well was she in an accident?
      Roseanne: No, why?
Darlene: Well I saw her upstairs and her back's all bruised up.
Roseanne: She didn't tell me about that.

    • Dan is handcuffed and riding in the back of a police cruiser. He's making smalltalk with the police officers about the metal gate installed between the front seat and backseat area.
Dan:Hey, can you get one of these for a regular car; it'd make trips with the kids a lot more fun.

    • Jackie: What kind of obscene material could DJ have?
Roseanne: Oh, I dunno. Probably one of Dan's PlayBoys or our credit report.

    • (Presenting a bucket of chicken to Roseanne)
Dan: I got your favorite, I told them to just fry up the skin, none of that pesky chicken to get in the way.

    • Darlene: What's my comic book doing out here?
Dan: DJ got caught with it at school today, we have to talk.
      Darlene: That's it...Hire a hearse, pick out a plot.

    • Roseanne: The longer we don't know what's in Darlene's head, the longer we have to sleep in shifts.

    • Roseanne: (seeing Dan's swollen hand) Oh, my God, you didn't kill him (Fisher), then go buy chicken, did you?
Dan: No, I bought the chicken first.

    • Darlene: What happened to Aunt Jackie?
Roseanne: Some say environment, but I say she was born that way.
