    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (6)

      • Roseanne's gift of the anchor is the last reference made of Dan's boat until late seventh season.

      • This is the first time we meet Chip's mom.

      • This is the first time we are introduced to Dwight, Dan's quirky friend.

      • In this episode, we learn that Dan's birthday is in January (episode's original air date: January 3, 1989). Later on, season three's episode, PMS. I Love You, celebrates his birthday in November (episode's original air date: November 6, 1990).

      • When Roseanne goes to the Lobo looking for Dan the day after his party, she finds him playing pool. During their conversation, the picture on the wall behind Dan is very crooked and remains that way for two views. On the third view of Dan, the picture is straight.

      • After Dan "puts his hammer through the drywall"... Darlene is is seen standing there, holding Dan's sharpened pencil in her right hand. The doorbell rings and the camera cuts to the living room, looking through into the kitchen and utility room. Darlene shouts "I'll get it!" and then runs to the front door. Notice that Darlene does not have the pencil anymore.

    • QUOTES (5)

      • Becky: (talking to her parents about the nice dinner she had at her boyfriend Chip's house) ...but the dinner was awful.
Roseanne: I don't understand that, because I made sure to give Chip's mom a list of your favorite foods. Ya know, liver, onions, cauliflower.
Becky: (immediately) Good think I brought my big purse.

      • Bobo: Hey, tell me something, what do you and your fat wife think of my new hat? (Dan looks at Roseanne)
Roseanne: Just this once. (Dan knocks Bobo out)

      • Becky: What if they serve me something that makes me gag, like okra?
Roseanne: Then you spit it into your napkin and put it in your purse.
        Becky: That's disgusting.
Roseanne: Not if they don't see you doing it.

      • Roseanne: Where's your father?
        Darlene: he went out.
        Roseanne: Why?
Darlene: Well he got mad at Dwight and threw his hammer through the drywall.
        Roseanne: Well it is Saturday.

      • Roseanne: Happy birthday! Don't go in the kitchen.
        Dan: Why?
Roseanne: Uh, because aliens have landed and they're taking over all life form.
Dan: Those fiends, they've come for the corn.
Roseanne: I should've known better than to try that with a man of your intellect. Really, there's all these little people in there making a birthday feast for you.

    • NOTES (0)

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • Dan's come-back to the bully in the Lobo Lounge "...the war's over. You can get parts for your head, now," is a direct quote from Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School. In that movie scene, Dangerfield's character also encounters a bully in a bar, eventually leading to a large bar-fight.

      • Roseanne throws back to this episode in the season 3 episode, P.M.S. I Love You, when she mentions to Dan that they didn't do his annual breakfast bash.
