Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • One of the Best episodes of the series

This episode - as much as any other - displays a real-life household situation.

Most good parents know better than to choose favorites among their children. And for all the exaggerated dysfunctionality of the Conner of the household, the Conners are no different. Yet it becomes inevitable in multi-child households that sometimes a child's particular interest meshes well with the parent's. This episode highlights a parent's struggle, once the situation is exposed.

Roseanne makes a rare concession to vulnerability, as she attempts to learn the sports nuance of Darlene's world. And the very real barriers to parent-child communication are well-shown when Dan's attempt to involve Becky turns to disaster.

The episode is resolved in a very touching manner, as Dan fails miserably at enjoying a shopping trip with Becky. But it's equally touching when Becky concedes that enjoying the shopping wasn't what mattered - what mattered was that her father cared.moreless

  • NOTES (1)

    • When Roseanne is talking to Dan and putting the leftovers away, she lifts the plastic food containers and stacks them while walking away from the counter, then the camera goes to Dan, then back to Roseanne, but this time she slides the food containers off the counter and carries them in both hands separately to the fridge.
