  • After a long time of not bringing in a steady income, Roseanne finally gets a decent interview with a solid company. She is hired, until the HR woman learns she has no computer skills and fires her immediately.moreless

I will hand it to Tom Arnold, he did a fantastic job at writing the script for this episode. This episode was before all the equal employment laws that protected women especially of being discriminated against in the workforce. When Roseanne is hired, she is excited and calls her family who plan a surprise party for her. Only, once she hangs up the phone, the woman informs her of her computer work that she will do. Roseanne has no computer experience and the HR lady fires her, no training given, nothing. I find this to be accurately harsh, but also mean. Computers weren't part of everyday life back in the late 80s, early 90s as they are in today's world. I can't help but think that they would fire her over a discrepancy that wasn't listed in the classified sections for her duties.moreless

    • Dan: (After hearing news of Roseanne getting the job, and wanting the house to look nice for when she gets home.) We got about 30 minutes to get this house presentable.
      Darlene: Rub a lamp.
Dan: (After deciding to have a party for Roseanne) ...and remember. We're just looking for the illusion of clean.

    • Dan: (just getting home from work, walking in the kitchen) Hey babe. How's it going?
Roseanne: (Roseanne and D.J. in unison) Death!

    • Muriel: And that wife of his. She's so perky, I'd like to drive a nail through her head.
Roseanne: I see why you're in personnel.

    • Dan: What do you know about meatpacking?
Roseanne: Well I've been living with a rump roast for fifteen years.

    • Muriel: That's why you're not in Personnel. You can't read people.
Roseanne(Grinning): Well, I can read you and you're nuts.

    • Dan: In honor of your new job!(AS he rips up her solicitation guide)
Roseanne: Oh, I wish you hadn't done that, Dan!

    • Muriel: You might want to come in a little early on Monday to familiarize yourself with the computer.
Roseanne: Oh, look! A microwave with its own organ.

    • Jackie: Whenever I go on a job interview, I just go as me.
Roseanne: That's why you work in a bar!

    • Dan: Okay, we have thirty minutes to make this house clean.
      Darlene: Rub a lamp.

    • Dan: What's for dinner?
(Roseanne looks at the empty stove.)
      Roseanne: Oh my god!
(She walks over to the refrigerator and takes out an uncooked roast, while Dan bangs silverware on the table top.)
      Roseanne: Uncooked meat.
Dan: Oooh, and I was just wormed.

  • NOTES (1)

    • As Roseanne gets ready for a job interview, Jackie demonstrates some funny tips to her on now to fix her hair. Two episodes later Beckey shows the same hair preparation tips to Darlene in "House Of Grown-Ups."
