    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    FILTER BY TYPE

    • TRIVIA (7)

      • In this episode, the music in the background played during the introduction returns to the same musical version prior to the episode where Sarah Chalke is included in the introduction. This musical version remains throughout the duration this introduction is used, the family eating Chinese food. This introduction is used through the seventh season.

      • At the end of this episode, pictures are shown from the birth of Laurie Metcalf's (who plays Jackie) real life son, Will Theron Roth who was born on November 20, 1993. Will is the son of Laurie Metcalf and Matt Roth who played Fisher, Jackie's boyfriend, in previous episodes on the show Roseanne. The two met on the set, and married in 1993.

      • Bev discloses Jackie's real name to be Marjorie. Strangely, Jackie had no idea, even though she presumably had seen documents like her school grades, her drivers license, and her social security card.

      • In the scene in the delivery room where Bev discloses Jackie's real name, Bev can be seen swatting away a fly.

      • After Roseanne tells the guy to get off the payphone she doesn't hang up the phone and dials anyway.

      • During the final scene before the credits Roseanne was wearing her regular clothes in one shot and a hospital gown in the next.

      • Jackie's pregnancy lasted less than 5 months from the date it was announced (episode 6.05 — of course, the discerning eye will notice that Laurie Metcalf was showing at the beginning of the season).

    • QUOTES (9)

      • (a very pregnant Jackie comes into work for the day)
        Bev: How are you doing?
Jackie: Not good. I went to step up on a curb, took me 2 tries.

      • (The woman behind the desk at the hospital asks Jackie for and if she has insurance. Roseanne pulls out a public aid medical card.)
hospital employee: Oh gee. I'm afraid we're not going to be able to take you. We've met our quota for public aid cases for the year.
Roseanne: Oh terrific, well can you just point us in the direction of the nearest manger.

      • Leon: Ladies. These are customers.
Roseanne: Not if we don't wait on them they ain't. Til then they're just people sitting at a counter.

      • (Jackie has just had a contraction in Roseanne's living room)
Jackie: Do you think it's over?
Roseanne: I don't know, you see a baby around here?

      • Roseanne: Jackie's in labor.
Dan: I know. I came home for lunch, and D.J. told me her water heater broke. I was halfway to her house to fix it when I realized what he meant.

      • Roseanne: The only women that give birth real fast are those big, fat Iowa women that don't even know they're pregnant in the first place.

      • Bev: When I was pregnant with you and felt a little edgy, I didn't let it bother me. I just went home and had a nice bottle of wine.
Jackie: I cannot believe she drank while she was pregnant with us.
Roseanne: Oh relax, Jackie. After a few months inside Mom, we probably needed a couple shots.

      • Roseanne: (talking about how Jackie is 3 days overdue with the baby and poking her protuding belly button) Maybe it's like a turkey--when this comes out, it's ready.

      • D.J.: Did your water break when you had me?
Roseanne: By the time I had you, everything was broken.

    • NOTES (2)

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • When Jackie is denied admittance to Lanford Hospital for lack of insurance, Roseanne asks directions to the nearest manger, an allusion to the circumstances that surrounded the birth of Jesus Christ, when Mary and Joseph were denied a room in the inn.
