  • Roseanne undergoes breast reduction surgery.

    10
The Roseanne series has several very surreal closing scenes, and this one ranks among the best.

The episode deals with Roseanne's breast reduction surgery; the core episode ends setting up Dan and Roseanne's first intimacy following the surgery, and actually shows Dan fondling Roseanne.

In the final scene, John Goodman and producer Tom Arnold, Roseanne's real-life husband break character and discuss the closing scene of the core episode. Arnold even calls Goodman "John" on camera.

It seems that Arnold, certainly reluctant to allow his wife to be fondled, wrote a hand-shake into the script, and that the stage crew had Arnold locked up so as to miss the actual airing. When Goodman lies to Arnold, telling him the hand-shake scene played out, Arnold rejoices that Producer is such a wonderful job.moreless

    • Roseanne: (Dreaming of having torpedo-sized breasts done by Doogie Howser MD) WHAT DID YOU DO!?!
Doogie: Did you want them bigger?

    • Roseanne: Dan, we've got a private room!
      Dan: It's very nice!
Roseanne: Well, did you wanna fool around?
      Dan: (laughing) In a hospital?
Roseanne: Yeah! See? The bed moves up and down, so you wouldn't even have to do anything!

    • Roseanne: (gets a smaller bra for a post-surgery present) Look at that, no underwire! Now I can go through that metal detector at the airport and not set it off!

    • Roseanne: It's funny, I went to talk about my back but all the doctor wanted to talk about was my boobs.
Dan: So you want me to go knock him out?

    • Dan: (at the hospital) What's that smell? My nose is burning.
Roseanne: Oh that's the clean. Don't get used to it now.

    • Roseanne: (in her uniform after the surgery) The whole thing's bigger now, it's like a tent. (to Dan) You wanna go camping?

    • Doctor: Your x-rays show no spinal damage.
Roseanne: Which means it's a muscular problem and I should try diet and exercise and maybe hot baths and now you're going to prescribe little blue pills that don't do anything.
Doctor: Well that just leaves the small matter of my fee.

    • Jackie: What'd the doctor say?
Roseanne: Well he said 'put your clothes on, I'm through with you', like any man.

    • Becky: (On phone)No, my father already fixed it, that's why I can't get it out of the driveway.
Dan: The car doesn't have to run for you to live in it little girl.

    • Roseanne: (after having an anesthesia induced dream, in which Doogie Howser M.D. botches her breast reduction, Roseanne wakes up and looks at her normal sized breasts) Oh, way ta go, Doogie.

    • Roseanne: This operation isn't about LOOKING better, it's about FEELING better.
Darlene: Oh come on Mom, you know you've always wanted perky ones.

    • Tom Arnold: I love being producer (a comment to John Goodman after he was locked up and missed seeing Goodman in a marital scene with Arnold's then-real-life wife)

    • (After hearing how breast reductions are done)
Roseanne: What sick Nazi man came up with that?

    • Roseanne: You want to fool around?
      Dan: In the hospital?
Roseanne: Ya, the bed goes up and down, you wouldn't have to do anything.
