  • Roseanne fires off the jokes lightning-fast in this episode when she gets a new job at the diner in a local department store, much to the chagrin of her daughter Becky. Also, Dan is left in charge of the house, which has Roseanne upset about his methods.moreless

This is one of my favorite episodes of the season, and the series as a whole. When Roseanne gets a new job at the Rodbell\'s diner, she is her hilarious self from the minute she steps foot into the store, which continues throughout her time working there. When Becky and her 2 friends (a young Alyson Hannigan included,) visit the store, Roseanne can\'t help but embarrass her a bit, including one of my favorite quotes:

Becky: \"Can you take our order?!\"

    Roseanne: \"Oh you\'ll eat what I bring ya.\"

Meanwhile, Dan has to take responsibility of taking care of the kids and the house, which has Roseanne up-in-arms over his way of doing things. Jackie must force her to let Dan take care of things, in a very funny interaction between them ("Spotsss!")

A short but sweet scene has DJ and Dan watching TV at a high volume, trying to drown out the sound of Darlene and Becky fighting and throwing each other\'s things out the window. Eventually, Dan steps in and makes Darlene move to the basement, which both girls are happy about at first, but Roseanne is furious because she worries that the girls will never talk to each other anymore. Eventually, Darlene complains that the room is too cold, and Dan perceives it as a request to move back in with her sister, and tells her that it\'s fine. Dan celebrates in front of Roseanne for a bit, and reminds her that there is no way that Darlene was too cold since he just fixed the thermostat, and struts off. Roseanne then asks Jackie to turn the thermostat back up.

All in all, this is a great episode with lots of hilarious lines from Roseanne, and a great showcase of why her character is so great.moreless

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • This episode's title, Like a New Job, is a play on the title of the previous episode, Like A Virgin. Like a Virgin is alluding to recording artist Madonna's song, "Like A Virgin" (1984).
