  • "Oh Honey, we would never embarrass you", says Roseanne as she tells Becky she will be at the bowling alley.

    8.0
Lover's Lane is probably one of the greatest episodes that depicts the situations teenagers go through with their parents. When Roseanne and her gang at Wellman Plastics are bored on a friday night, the gang decides to go bowling. While getting ready to go Becky also finds out her parents are going to the alley, and she doesn't want to be embarrassed. On the back burner in the episode is the situation with Jackie and Booker, in which Booker plans to sleep over Jackie's if he can beat the pants off her. In the end, Booker is respectable and Roseanne chooses to pretend she doesn't know Becky so that she can enjoy her time.moreless
  • The BEST episode of Roseanne ever.

    10
This episode from the first season of Roseanne was the perfect episode - I can watch the episode time and time again and still find myself laughing to tears at the incredible performances by Dan (John Goodman), Roseanne, Becky, Darlene, D.J., Jackie and especially the performance by George Clooney as Roseanne, Jackie and Crystal's boss from the factory. The gang heads out for a night of bowling, which finds a 'friendly' wager (very friendly) occur between Jackie and Fischer (Clooney), Becky's first crush and Roseanne's meeting of the kid, and the bowling by everyone which has me smiling ear to ear. Perfect sitcom episode.moreless
  • The Conner family heads to the bowling alley with Crystal and Jackie in tow, Booker bringing up the rear. A guy Becky has a crush on works there part-time, too. A fun time is had by all.moreless

    9.5
This is an episode I can watch over and over again and not get sick of it. This embodies the essence of Roseanne's show in the early years, before, I believe, Tom Arnold got his hands on her and corrupted her and the show.

This is a light, silly, breezy episode. The first scene takes place at the Wellman Plastic Factory and we're treated to Roseanne and her girlfriends and co-workers interacting with the men while in the breakroom. Lots of banter and repartee, lots of laughs. There Roseanne and Jackie and Crystal make a date to go bowling, and Booker decides to tag along.

Everyone seems to be in a good mood, except Becky, who is apprehensive when her parents find out that a guy she likes, Chip, is going to working at the snack bar in the bowling alley. Her parents promise not to embarrass her, but she isn't so sure...

Jackie and Booker make a bet as the game commences: if Booker wins, Jackie has to spend the night with him, and if Jackie wins -- or so she says -- Booker has to clean in her apartment.

There's lots of bowling, having fun, and beer drinking. One touching moment comes when Roseanne goes to the snack bar, where Becky is seated, to check out this Chip guy. She pretends not to know Becky and orders snacks, tipping the kid 50 cents. Becky is about to die of shame, even though Chip has no idea who Roseanne is, until Chip says, "Hey, she tipped me even though she just bought snacks. That was cool." Becky smiles and says, "Yeah. Real cool."

Booker, of course, wins the bet, but tells Jackie, "Not tonight, and not on a bet." The audience actually applauded for that. Another heartwarming moment.

The Conners end up at home, watching a wrestling match. Dan pins Rosie to the couch at one point as she laughs wildly. A good time was had by all, and the episode is over.

I hate the word "nice," but that's what the episode was: nice. The cast interacted with each other very well, the director was on the ball, and the laughs were plentiful. I had a great time.moreless
  • Roseanne trys to meet becky new crush while Jackie and Booker make a bet on bowling that if he wins she has to come back to his apartment and if she wins he has to come to her apartment and clean her bathroom.moreless

I love this episode. I love how Roseanne and Dan act when they find out Becky has a new crush, Chip. I loved the bet Jackie and Booker made about if he won she'd have to come back to his apartment and if she won he'd have to come to her apartment and clean her bathroom. I loved it when Roseanne was trying to get Darlene to tell her who Chip was by dancing.moreless
  • Roseanne decides everyone should go bowling for the night. Dan plays well, while Roseanne is lucky if she stays in the right lane. Jackie and Booker make a bet. And Becky doesn't want Chip to find out who her parents are.moreless

    9.5
This is one of my all time favorite Roseanne episodes. I love how non-serious Roseanne is about bowling. And how in the end she proves she can get a strike if she really wants to. And I love how Dan is so serious about bowling. I love the chemistry between Roseanne and Dan in this episode. It's amazing. I like how Roseanne threatens Darlene by saying, "If you don't show me who Chip is I'm going to dance!" And I also like how when Becky finally gets the courage to go and talk to Chip, Roseanne purchases stuff at the snack counter and acts as if she's never seen Becky. I just love this episode a lot. And I would give it a 10 if it weren't for Crystal being constantly annoying.moreless

    • Roseanne: (to Crystal) See Crystal, now we're all going. What are you going to do? Sit home and check the expiration dates on all your dairy products.

    • Roseanne: (trying to persuade Jackie and Crystal that they should all go out bowling) Oh come on! I love bowling. It's the perfect workout. 6 seconds of exercise. Drink beer half an hour.

    • Roseanne Barr: (about this episode) Well, this is called Lovers' Lane and it's the bowling show. And, that was like the first show, I think, where I really started to be-- having fun, and, ya know, doing more than just delivering a flat line, ya know, a-a flat punch line. I got to act funny. I got to do funny things. I got to like-- kinda blow my character out a little bit and have fun!

    • (DJ has chocolate all over him)
Roseanne: Honey, look what I found.
      Dan: Where'd you find it?
Roseanne: Stuck to a video game machine. (She reaches into DJ's shirt pocket and pulls out a ice cream sandwich)
DJ: I was savin' it for later.

    • Roseanne: I can bowl a strike anytime I want.
      Dan: Oh, yeah? How's that?
Roseanne: I just pretend the ball's your head and the pins are the kids.

    • (Bowling)
      Roseanne: Alright, what's my score.
      Dan: Uh...7.
      Roseanne: What inning is it?

    • Dan: Roseanne, if you manage to knock down one pin...I'll be your love slave for life.
Roseanne: Yeah, but what do I win?

    • Roseanne: How's that bet going with you and Booker?
Jackie: Booker is beating the pants off of me...literally.

    • Dan: Girls always go for guys that remind them of their fathers.
Roseanne: Not if they listen to their mothers.

    • Dan (giving Darlene and DJ money): Don't come crying to us for more. And DJ, don't draw on it this time.

    • Crystal: Why do people leave their dairy products out?
      Roseanne: I don't know Crystal, it's a sick world.
