Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • In this episode, when Roseanne is collecting dirty laundry in Darlene's bedroom she is wearing the pink slippers that her and Jackie supposedly gave their mom for Mother's Day back in the season 4 episode, Don't Make me Over. In that episode, Roseanne finds the slippers in the closet. She had received them from the kids Mother's Day they year before, and had forgotten to return them. Her and Jackie joke that they should give them to their mom for Mother's Day that year. A little later in the episode, over the phone Jackie asks Bev if she got the slippers.

    • The establishing shot for the prom is the same building used as an establishing shot for DJ's elementary school in the episode where he won the spelling bee.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Darlene:asking abut David Why does he want to go to the prom?
Roseanne: Well you may not realize it, Darlene, but every once in a while, some guys need to get gussied up and go out for a night on the town to show off their new hat.

    • Darlene: Well, are we going to have sex?
David: I think I just did.

    • Dan: Sorry, Raj, I just can't swing it.
Roger: Dan, Everybody has a little voice inside them saying 'no.' You must learn to ignore it.
Dan: Yeah, well my little voice speaks real loud, and can deny me sex.

    • Roger: What kind of guy does she goes for?
David: The kind that wears a bra. She's into chicks.

  • NOTES (0)

  • ALLUSIONS (5)

    • When Darlene says, "Pat, I'd like to solve the puzzle, please," she alludes to to the long-running game show "Wheel of Fortune" and the host Pat Sajak.

    • Nancy: (interrupting Roseanne and Dan who are arguing about whether or not to take Roger up on his business proposition) Come on, guys, give peace a chance.

Nancy is making an allusion to the John Lennon song, "Give Peace A Chance".

    • Roseanne: (making a dramatic entrance: all dressed up for a night on the town) Oh, don't hate me because I'm beautiful.

Roseanne is making an allusion to a 1980's television commercial where a gorgeous model would appear on the screen, looking directly at viewers with compelling magazine-cover eyes and say, "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful".

    • When Darlene says the only way she'd be at the prom would be if she were sitting in the rafters with a bucket of pig's blood, is a reference to Stephen King's book (and the movie) Carrie, in which a bucket of pig's blood was poured on the prom queen (Carrie) right after her crowning.

    • The title of this episode is an allusion to the 1968 Broadway musical, Promises, Promises, a stage adaptation of Billy Wilder's film, The Apartment.
