  • Perfect comedy.

Brilliant episode with a plot that could come from any family sitcom, but it's the writing and the acting that put it a cut above anything else. Perhaps I also like it because my favourite outsiders Darlene and D.J. play major parts in it. Sara Gilbert's wordless comedy is amazing. It would be easy to make the moody Darlene little more than a character who spouts a nasty remark once in a while - and she does - but her humiliation in the commercial is executed with perfect comedy timing.

The show did not underestimate its audience's intelligence either. A particular line at the start of the show could be a set-up for a huge laugh at the end. When Roseanne's neigbour mentions her upcoming operation, she actually refers to an earlier nasty remark by Roseanne.
