The middle-aged woman with the scarf who watches attentively as Jackie sells the sausages is Ruth Cohen (1930-2008), a very famous television extra.
(Dan's irritated with David.)
David: You work part-time at a pizza parlor and spend the rest of your life making ironic comments about everybody else. Irony is for people who don't do anything.
Dan: (to David) Now run and get me some more of these encyclopedias (to keep the new linoleum from folding up). Oh and try to keep them in alphabetical order. I don't want to spend all day trying to put them back.
(Roseanne and Jackie take on an extra job passing out samples in a supermarket to make a little extra money. Jackie is practicing handing out samples.)
Roseanne: Oh relax Jackie. You don't have to do anything. People will eat cotton in a supermarket as long as there's a toothpick in it.
(Roseanne pulls out a milk carton and opens it)
Roseanne: Hey Jackie!
Jackie (not looking): What?
Roseanne: Got Milk? (pours the milk over Jackie's head)
In this episode, Roseanne and Jackie take on a side jobs working at a grocery store passing out samples in order to bring in some extra money. Roseanne and Jackie end up getting into a food fight. They allude to several products during the fight.
Jackie: In fact that was just grrrrrreat (pours a box of Frosted Flakes cereal in the pan on Roseanne's table)!: Frosted Flakes, a cereal for children
Roseanne: Oh Jackie you and your silly tricks. But, as everyone knows, Trix are for kids pours a box of Trix cereal all over Jackie's table.: Trix, another cereal for children
Jackie: m&m chocolate candies. They melt in your mouth, not in your hand (stuffs a handful of m&m's in Roseanne's mouth).: m&m's, chocolate candy
Roseanne: You know the best part of waking up Jackie is Folgers in your cup (pours a bag of Folgers coffee down Jackie's shirt).: Folgers, a brand of coffee
Roseanne: Oh Jackie.
Jackie: What?
Roseanne: Got milk? (pours a carton of milk over Jackie's head): got milk?, an advertising campaign started in the 90's encouraging people to drink enough milk
The title of this episode is an allusion to the famous 1975 boxing match in Manila, Philippines, between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier, called "The Thrilla in Manila".
