  • A really awesome episode! My second favorite of the third season! Very very funny too!

    9.6
This episode was so funny in so many ways! One really funny part was when Roseanne successfully wins another arguement with her new neighbor, Kathy Bowman; by saying that she is better because she has three kids and Kathy only has one so Roseanne says that three is better so she wins, THAT WAS HILARIOUS! Another really funny part, to me, was when someone said that no one likes to live in Lanford and Roseanne says, "Well of course no one likes it here, why do you think we watch so much damn tv!" That was one of the main funny parts to this episode. This one is worth the time to watch; its awesome!moreless
  • Well Troubles with the Rubbles is basically about new neighbours moving in next door to Roseanne and there is a bit of an atmosphere!

    8.6
Well Troubles with the Rubbles is a very good episode! I like it when Kathy does a weird sneeze and Jackie looks confused and goes what? And what about Roseannes face when Kathy sneezes and says shes allergic to dust! Its aslo funny where Kathy walks into Roseannes house and Dan Burps! What about when Kathy tries her hardest to nicely get Dan and Roseanne out of her house, and well then there is Jerry who admits to hugging his tree! Its good when Roseanne sees Kathys shelf on the wall and it is the one that Roseanne had wanted for ages but Dan said the wall wasnt right and then when she sees Kathys dishwasher which Dan had also said would never fit!

    Great Episode!moreless
  • A fairly realistic depiction of what happens when an upper class family moves into a middle class neighborhood.

    8.5
    Nice job by the Writers!!

Troubles with the Rubbles had some original, but very realistic themes. It had the clashing neighbor moving in, and the tensions that ensue. It included a resolution of a husband's efforts to duck his wife's list of home repair activities, and a hilarious comeback by Roseanne that she wouldn't be able to sleep that night for all the racket Dan would make building her a shelf. And it had a true-to-life scene about Roseanne feigning humility to a snooty neighbor as an act of love for her son.

This was one of Roseanne's better episode efforts.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Dan and Roseanne seem genuinely surprised at how similar their house is to the Bowman's. It seems odd that in all the years they have lived there, this is the first time they've ever been in the house next door.

    • The sets of the neighbor's house are the exact same floorplan as the Connor's, but there is new, nice furniture.

    • The end credits for this episode show a comparison of the Conner's living room and their neighbor's. When the Conner's house is shown, the usual harmonica plays, but when their neighbor's house is shown, elegant music plays.

  • QUOTES (10)

    • Kathy: (squeaks a sneeze)
      Roseanne: What was that?
Kathy: Sorry. I'm allergic to dust.
      Roseanne: I just dusted!
Kathy: Well, it's the only thing that makes me sneeze. (squeaks a sneeze again)

    • Todd: (After Dan belches loudly) Mr. Conner is the coolest!
      Kathy: So I heard.
Dan: I could have done it better, but I didn't want to hurt the lad.

    • Kathy: Goodnight, Roseanne.
Roseanne (after she closes the door): Goodnight, Needle Butt.

    • Jackie: You never used to worry about what people thought of you.
Roseanne: Well, yeah, that's 'cause everybody likes me!

    • Roseanne: I just can't get over how much your living room reminds me of ours.
Kathy: Well, I'm not quite finished with it yet.

    • Roseanne: You're doing the dishes, or you don't get your allowance this week.
      Darlene: Deal, thanks.
Roseanne: I guess the old three-dollar threat ain't what it used to be.

    • Dan: (to D.J. during the camp-out) Sure the cops knew he was crazy. He would stalk unsuspecting campers and as he would walk up to their tents and he would whistle...(whistles) then he would hack them to pieces with his machete.
      D.J.: Can I have a machete?
      Dan: No!
D.J.: Well? Did they ever catch him?
Dan: Yeah, once, they handcuffed him, but he cut off his own hand to escape. And now he has a sharp hook with which he uses to kill campers and drag their lifeless corpses along the ground.
D.J.: What happened to the machete?
Dan: You can't have one! Anyway, he was last spotted here in Lanford, the police have been searching for him for days.
      (whistle)
      Dan: Do you hear that?
      D.J.: What?
(whistle, shadow of a hook on the side of the tent)
Dan: It's the whistling killer! Get down, we'll be safe in here.
(a hook comes into the tent)
      Roseanne: Arrrrrrrgggggh!
D.J.: Mom I thought you were getting us something to eat.
(Roseanne pulls the hook back, then sticks it back in with donuts on it)
Roseanne: Rrrrrrrr...well, did we scare you?
Dan: Yeah, he was scared you were gonna hurt the hook guy.

    • (The Conners on their way over to visit the new neighbors)

Roseanne: I'm going over there looking for dust, Dan. And when I find it, I'm gonna sneeze, and not one of those little needle butt sneezes either, I'm gonna blow a lung all over her living room!

    • (after just meeting their new neighbor, Kathy Bowman)
Jackie: Maybe she was a little uptight.
Roseanne: A LITTLE uptight? Hey man, you couldn't drag a needle out of her butt with a tractor!

    • Kathy: Are you saying you're a better mother because you have three children?
Roseanne (sarcastic): Yeah! Three to one! I win!

  • NOTES (0)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Jackie asks if Roseanne knows anything about the new neighbors. Since Jackie doen't believe Roseane's initial claim that she doesn't, Roseanne improvises...

Roseanne: Well, there's Darrin, he's in advertising. And they have this cute little girl, Tabitha. But I don't know about the lady there, she's a real witch.

This is an allusion to the TV show, Bewitched, starring Elizabeth Montgomary.

    • The episode title is an allusion to The Flinstones cartoon where the Rubbles were Fred and Wilma Flinstone's neighbors.
