  • It's Valentines Day and Roseanne is mad at Dan for forgetting about it. Meanwhile, Darlene is excited when a boy she likes is about to ask her to a school dance, but is then crushed when he asks Becky out instead.moreless

This is a fun episode but also kind of a sad one as we see Darlene get her heart broken when a boy she likes asks Becky out instead. However it's not all dark clouds as Dan tries to get Roseanne a good Valentine's Day present, and he asks Jackie what to get her..

Dan: "What do I get her?"

Jackie: "Well Dan, I'm sure whatever you get her.."

    Dan: "TELL ME!!!"

Dan heads to the lingerie store, and can barely keep it together when the female employees offer to help him pick something out, and ends up buckling under the pressure, and gets her a heart shaped card instead with a sweet message on it.

Meanwhile, Darlene asks a boy she likes to come over to study, and she is very nervous around him, which is probably the funniest part of the episode, when Darlene evacuates the room to talk to Becky, and rushes back in when she realizes the boy is alone with Roseanne. When Darlene tries to be subtle in asking her mom to leave, you can tell Roseanne can barely keep from laughing, which is also seen in the several bloopers of this scene in the credits at the end of the episode.

Roseanne runs into the boy at the diner, and makes him call the house and ask her daughter out, but is surprised when he asks Becky out instead of Darlene, and as you can imagine, Darlene is hurt by this and feels betrayed by her sister. But she gets over it after a talk with her mom.

All in all this is a pretty fun episode, with great scenes from Dan and Darlene.moreless

    • Roseanne: (Reading a Valentine's Day card from Dan)
Though this gift is not what you desired,
      the message is quite clear.
If you need proof of how much I love you,
Well heck Rosey, I'm still here!

    • (phone conversation)
Barry: Hello. This is Barry Parker. Is this Darlene?
Becky: Just a second Barry. I'll get her. (screams) DARLENE! HURRY!
(Becky and Darlene begin to celebrate by screaming and jumping up and down)
Darlene: Ok. I just became one of the girls I hate. Now give me the phone.

    • (Roseanne is sitting on the couch with Barry, and Darlene wants Roseanne to leave)
      Darlene: Hi...
      Roseanne: ..hi
(Darlene begins to move her head back repeatedly indicating she wants Roseanne to leave)
Roseanne: What's that Lassie? You say Timmy fell down a mine shaft?..up on big rock mountain?! Grandpas already up there waiting? I better get out there! (gets up to leave, and pats Darlene on the head) good girl!

    • Roseanne: (to Darlene who has just signaled her to leave by making an overly-animated gesture with her head) What's that, Lassie? You say Timmy fell down the mine shaft?...Up on Big Rock Mountain? And, Grampa's already up there waiting? I'd better get out there! (gets up to leave and pats her on the head) Good girl!

Roseanne is making an allusion to the perilous adventures of Timmy Martin and his dog, Lassie, in the dramatic 1960's television series, Lassie.
