Liz decides to tell Max exactly what happened while he was drunk. Before he can, Isabel alerts Max that there's something wrong with Michael. Max discovers that Michael's foster dad punched him, and this is not the first time it's happened. Michael urges Max not to tell anyone, but Max confides in Isabel. Isabel tries to convince Michael to tell the authorities. Michael refuses but acquiesces to eating dinner at the Evans's. After some tense moments at the Evan's about conflicting beliefs on rules, he leaves. Michael returns home and fights with his foster dad. Max and Isabel rescue Michael before he seriously hurts his foster father, Hank.
Liz and Maria go to Maria's house and discover Maria's mom and Sheriff Valenti getting hot and heavy in the living room. Maria sternly admonishes her mother that Valenti is the wrong type for her. Later that night it Maria sees Michael outside her window as it rains cats and dogs. She lets him inside, dries him off and they sleep on her bed (but don't have sex). In the morning, Maria's mom walks in on them. Michael leaves and Maria and her mother argue.
At school, police bring Michael in for questioning over Hank's recent disappearance. Michael pleads ignorance but Valenti keeps him at the station on suspicion. At Maria's request, Amy DeLuca gives Michael an alibi about that night and Valenti lets Michael out.
Michael decides to leave Roswell and find Nasedo. Isabel and Max protest. Michael almost leaves and then decides to turn his life around. With some help from Mr. Evans, he becomes an emancipated minor.
At the end of the episode, we see Nasedo the shape shifter, disguised as Michael's foster dad, bury Hank Guerin and then change into a stranger.
