  • Michael does something stupid - what a surprise - and ends up looking like a human candy floss.

I can't mark these things down too much because there's always something worthwhile in the episode.

I really am done, though, witht the whole mystic Native American sit-in-a-tent-and find yourself stuff. They did it in the X Files and this is kind of a rehash of that (though to be fair, I'm not sure about the timeline).

Michael decides to visit River Dog and is found wanting, which for some reason involves a lot of coughing, some unidentified drink in a bowl and a lot of cobwebs that take him over.

Yes it does give us a little more insight into the background of our favourite martians, but it's just a little tedious. It is tense in the way that we want Michael to be okay, but the majority of the storyline just didn't do it for me.

  • Average story.

I have to admit I am stating to like Michael's character and actions. He is so hell bent on doing things his way he doesn't care for the consequences of his actions even if it means risking his own life to find the truth. It sort of reminds me of Mulder of the X-Files. And with aliens involved and the native Indians the comparisons to the two are similar. Interesting the way the friends rally even though Michael decisions were bad. We see more of the dysfunctional relationships develop between Michael and Maria. We see them grow closer as a couple.moreless
  • Michael's being Michael leads to Liz and Max going back to Riverdog for help.

After finding out that Max and Liz kept a secret about cave from him, Michael decide to find out about everything himself. Riverdog puts him to a test, but since Michael has a diferent reaction then alien that was there before, Riverdog is convinced Michael hasn't passed the test. But, once back in town, Michael starts getting worse, till the point when he drops to some kind of nightmare, when he sees all this memories of Isabel, Max and him after they went out of escape pods. Michael's personality is also explained, he seem to be lonely and theatrical since forever. There wasn't a lot of M&M moments in this episode, but the ones that were were pretty intense.moreless
  • Michael gets sick after visiting the reservation

This was an odd one, I must say. After discovering Max had gotten information from River Dog, Michael decides to visit for himself. He enters a sweat tent with Eddie and River Dog, and ends up getting a strange sickness. Max, Isobel and Liz don't know what to do to help him, but eventually learn that the sickness was caused by something River Dog has done.

Turns out Michael was being tested, but didn't respond immediately, leading River Dog to believe he was not truly an alien. Once River Dog learns that Michael has gotten ill, he helps the gang save him from an early death. Death by cocoon, I guess. Like I said, an odd one.

And after only one episode, Max and Liz are taking a break from their relationship. Talk about shortlived!moreless
  • Michael in trouble again makes the gang go back to the Native-American reservation.

While the Liz/Max relationship is going forward, it's the opposite for the Michael/Maria one. There is some revealing details in this episode but the scenes in the reservation are pretty boring and the Native-Americans are still very cliché. The scenes where Alex learns stuff about the aliens are pretty interesting though. This episode prepares what will happen in the next ten episodes. This episode just lacks a bit in the entertainment factor.

Topolsky has been missing since she her cover was totally blown. This works for the story, but Julie Benz's presence was needed on the set. It just shows on screen.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • TRIVIA: According to the commentary for this episode, the name Nasedo is an anagram of Sedona, a city in Arizona which Thania St. John, one of the producers, had spent a good deal of time in previously.

    • TRIVIA: This is where it's first shown the V that represents Antar and it's surrounding planets.

    • At the Crashdown, when Isabel says, "Fine, I'm not an alien," Alex's hands flit from on the table to gesturing in the air.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Maria: Alex. Where have you been? We've been looking for you the last couple of days.
Alex: Oh, well, I've been feeling, you know, a little rocky about... "things," you know? So I took some time, you know? A little personal reflection, a little research.
Maria: So, um, where did you come out in all this?
Alex: Well, I've got two theories. One is that, uh, you and Liz have been brainwashed by a drug cult.
      Maria: Yes?
Alex: And the other is I'm trapped inside some extremely long, extremely weird nightmare.
Maria: Yeah, well, you know, the first couple of days were pretty tough for me too, but, trust me, they will not hurt you. I mean, physically.
Alex: What actually makes you believe in any of this?
Maria: Well, I guess when Liz was shot and Max dissolved the bullet into nothingness and then repaired the damages inside of her that would have otherwise left her dead. I guess that kind of changed my thinking.

    • Liz (narrating): I've always been the one who comes through in the time of crisis. I do what's necessary and I don't panic. But seeing Michael so sick and...and having no way of knowing what was wrong or how to help... It made me scared. Scared that one day something could happen to Max and I wouldn't know how to help this person who means so much to me. Who means everything.

    • Liz: Ok, you know like all of that time that I spent with Kyle... I didn't have any of those feelings that I did when I was with Max. What about you?
Maria: Doug Sohn in the eighth grade?
      Liz: Yeah.
Maria: Amateur. Michael is the real thing.
Liz: Ok, now, here is the big question. Do you think that we feel like this just because of the fact that they're like...
      Maria: Oh, their non-human status.
      Liz: Right.
Maria: What if they've like ruined it for us with anyone else?
      Liz: Yeah.
Maria: Leave it to Michael to just wreak havoc on the rest of my life, even though he wants no part of it.

    • Mrs. Evans: Max, honey, Liz is here.
      Max: We're just... going out.
      Michael: You're going out.
Isabel: What, like on a date?
Max: No, not at all. We both kinda felt like Chinese food. It's no big deal.
Isabel: Why are you changing your shirt?

    • Max: We don't belong together.
      Liz: Don't say that.
Max: The other night, you know, when we went out...and the whole day before, ever since we kissed I've been off balance. You made me forget that anything else existed, but that's not real.
Liz: It is the only real thing I have ever felt.

    • Max: You broke up? Why didn't you tell me?
Michael: I don't know if we did or we didn't. It's kind of confusing.
Liz (placing a glass on the table in front of Max): Cherry cola, on the house.
Maria (placing another glass in front of Michael): Yours is $1.25.
Michael: I guess it's not so confusing anymore.

    • Isabel (to Alex): Fine, I'm not an alien.
