  • All secrets are finally revealed

I love this episode and as the season finale I think it really delivers. There is so much that goes on in this episode some of which I wished they had expanded on more, but it was still a great episode to watch. Tess, oh Tess, I hated her the whole time, but once I found out she was evil, I gained a new appreciation for her. Micheal and Maria were so cute and perfect in this episode and it culminated the progression they were making throughout this season. I also loved how Max left with everything still up in the air with Liz after knowing that she had never slept with Kyle and then telling her that he loved her. I thought it was poetic justice that he was left in the dark when he likes to be in control so much. Then Kyle and his father who were so good to Tess and then when Kyle regains his memories of what has happened and everything falls into place.

Then at the end when Micheal leaves (which was a tad bit unrealistic, but I'll suspend my perception of reality because of how romantic it was) and the humans reveal to him what happened, it is great. I love how it ends on the mountains the same way it did the first season and it opens the main search for Max that continues in the next season.moreless

  • Final Confessions

This is basically a reveal all cliffhanger episode. It reveals two things: One: The characters feelings toward each other and their existance. Two: Closure to the emotional and intreging Who killed Alex arc. I really loved this episode because every character in it was being honest with one another and themselves.

Max and Liz share a few long conversations and admits that he always loved Liz and always will. That's pritty obvious and it works with us because thoughout the show we already know these two will always be right for one another. I never really thought that Tess and Max really fit together. Sure they may have been together in their past life, but the past can never fully define who someone is right now. Max is a different (may'be even better) person, and due to the fact that Max has lived on Earth most of his life both Max and Liz have more depth and progress in their relationship; while Max and Tess may have spent time together in Season 2 but it didn't really go further emotionally.

Michael and Maria have a sweet get together and whats great is the fact that we see a more mature and emotional side he rarely shows in the show. He is actually being responsible in going a little further in his relationship with Maria. It supprising what he does at the end when he changes his mind to stay. He always talked about leaving, but that was because he had no reason to stay not until Maria came into his life, so his love for her became that reason.

Then there is Isabel who visits Alex's grave one more time, admits to his spiritual presence her deep loving feelings to him as well as showing reluctance toward leaving for knowing all the things she will leave behind.

All this builds up to the final minutes when in M Night style we see what those taping figures ment. We see Tess for who she really is, the murderer of Alex. It makes sense, I never really trusted her character, she was always boringly nice but due to how much she knew about the past and how hard she was pushing Max to love her you couldn't help but feel there was something hidden. In the end she turns out to be nothing but a cold hearted person that doesn't feel anything for the crimes she commited against both the past and now, all to get what she wants.

In the end of the episode, Tess may have won on one count but also lost. The Roswell gang ended up together, while Tess rides on a starship forever alone.

  • A great season finale, with a lot of character resolution.

There are some spoilers in what follows.

I loved this episode. Very revealing in all sorts of ways. At last, it looks like everyone is going home. They have the secret to the granolith and have one chance to make it work. As the aliens prepare to leave, Liz and the rest make some startling discoveries about Alex's death.

Finally, we learn that we were right about Tess all along. It was never about four aliens, only the group of three we know. Tess is more of an outsider than anyone realised. There was no trip to Sweden for Alex. Instead, he'd been holed up translating the alien book, while Tess mind-warped him. And when he finally began to realise what she'd done, she killed him, then mind-warped Kyle into helping her set up the crash.

It's a wonderfully tense episode, where just about anything can happen. Will they leave? Will Tess's plan work? Will Liz et al get to them in time to warn them?

It's a very special moment when Michael, the outsider, the one who was desperate to return home from the very beginning, decides that he's the one who really wants to stay on Earth and be with Maria. He's willing to give up his one chance. That's what I like about the character of Michael. Just when you think you know him, just when he's at his most arrogant, he turns round and does something good.

Through his actions, Liz is able to warn Max and Isabel, and Tess finally comes clean and admits everything. It's a touching moment as Tess leaves with Max's baby and he vows to find him somehow.

A great ending to the season.moreless
  • With Liz's discoveries, the gang now prepares to leave earth but not without solving the Alex situation.

    9.8
I really hate cliffhangers at the end of a season, but this episode is actually the first one I could forgive the producers. It might be because I don't need to wait 3 months for to see what happens next because I'm watching this on DVD, but it's mostly because, the cliffhanger is very good. The final revelation regarding Alex's murder is simply jaw dropping. I never could have thought that this was what was going on all along.

This episode, as the title suggest, is about the four aliens getting ready to leave and saying goodbye to everyone. The scene between Max and Liz was well thought they bring back the pointing-up-in-the-sky from the first episode of when Max revealed where he's from.

The recording of Max and Isabel to their parents is weird though. They actually tell Valenti to give it to their parents ''as soon as he's sure they're gone''. Which just tells us it might not happen. That killed the final moment a bit. We knew something was going to happen.

Also the fact that Michael actually decides to stay was pretty interesting. ''You of all people'' as Max tells him. Michael is the one who always wanted to leave. It's also because of this that Liz has a chance to reveal to Max what happened to Alex.

Another good moment, is when Max wants to kill Leanna and they realise they might be making a mistake and just kill someone who, like Brody, is being used by aliens.

    This episode is very surprising.moreless

In this one, Michael joins her to add his own comments for a simple reason: at that time, Maria still didn't know that Tess was pregnant. She found that out during this very episode. Therefore she couldn't tell us that at the beginning of if.

    • TRIVIA: This is the final episode for Diane Farr, who played Maria's mom, Amy de Luca. Her character didn't appear in season 3, although most of the storylines featured the gang's parents.

    • TRIVIA: This episode marks the final time Colin Hanks and Emilie de Ravin appear in the opening credits. Although, both of them return for guest spots in the third season.

    • In the scene where Kyle and Tess are sitting on her bed and talking, she leans forward and hugs him by putting her arms around his neck. The shot then changes to his face and her arms are around the tops of his shoulders. When the shot changes back to her face again, her arms are around his neck again.

  • QUOTES (16)

    • Isabel: We want you to know that we love you so much. We're orphans, we could have ended up anywhere, with anyone, but we got you. What is it they say? There but for the grace of God. I'm sorry, I'm sorry to leave you, but we have to go. I wish we didn't, I wish I could just be your girl forever, but um...
Max: You were great parents to us. We will always, always love you. Thank you, for everything. And goodbye.

    • Max (to Liz): I've been really wrong about a lot. But I was right about one thing. To get you into my life, to be around you. To love you.
Maria (to Michael) You opened the door and you came out, why? (Michael doesn't say anything) You stayed for me.
      Isabel: What happens now, Max?
Max: I have to save my son.

    • Max: How did I ever fall in love with someone like you? How could I ever marry you?
Tess: You were different. You were a King. Now you're just a boy. (Max raises his hand) If you kill me, Max, you kill our son.
Max: This is not over, Tess.

    • Max: Did you kill Alex?
      Tess: I didn't want to. I wish I hadn't, but I did.
      Max: Why?
Tess: Look, Max, the clock is ticking. We don't really have time to…
      Max: Tell me why!!
Tess: He would've told you what I did and I couldn't let that happen.
Max: So you just…you just killed him?
Tess: I didn't mean to. His mind was just so weakened by the mind warp…look, none of this matters now.
Max: Life matters, Tess. My life, your life, his.
Tess: What matters is getting home! But you could never understand that, could you? I might have been able to teach you, but that stupid bitch had you wrapped around her-
Max: Don't you ever call her that!
Tess: See? Look how fast you rush to her defence. Why couldn't you ever feel that way about me? I'm your wife, Max. I'm carrying your child.
Max: This was all some sort of plan to get pregnant and go home, wasn't it? Home to what, Tess? To Kivar? To our enemies?
Tess: They're not my enemies, Max.

    • Michael: Max, I can't go. Ever since we came out of the pods, I've ben on some quest to figure out where I belong. I finally found home. The weird thing is, it's here. It's on Earth.
Max: You, of all people. Take care of yourself, Michael. I love you.
      Michael: You're a great brother.
Max: Take care of the others. (He looks at Isabel) I would understand...
Isabel: What you said before. You're my home too.
Tess: Well, whoever is coming, we have to go. Now.

    • Kyle: I carried his body. She made me think it was luggage. She killed him. Tess killed Alex.

    • Kyle: No, there's no way I've been mindwarped. I'd remember it.
Maria: Uh, Kyle? That's the point of being mindwarped, so you don't remember it.

    • Max: I need you to protect Liz, Maria and Kyle.
Valenti: With my life. It's been an honour to know you, Max. It's been an honour.
      Max: Same here.

    • (Tess kisses Max, and gets a flash of him kissing Liz earlier in the episode)
Tess: You kissed Liz. Don't worry. You won't remember her where we're going.

    • Sean: Liz. You all right?
Liz: No. I'm not. I'm not all right. Max Evans broke my heart.

    • (Isabel is in her room, crying, when Michael finds her)
Isabel: What if I said I wanted to stay?
Max: When we came out of the pods, and we lost Michael, it was just the two of us in the desert. I know that I wasn't alone, that I had my sister. To me, Earth isn't home. And whatever's up there isn't home. You're my home.

    • (After Maria and Michael have sex)
Maria: I think we just took a huge step in human-alien relations. I love you, Michael.
Michael: I love you, too. But I have to leave. Max, Isabel, Tess and I are going home.
Maria: Yeah, I know. Like, eventually, right?
Michael: We're leaving in a few hours. We have to. I have no choice. I don't want to leave you. But we both knew that someday this would happen.
Maria: How much time do we have?
      Michael: About an hour.
      (Maria snuggles closer to Michael)

    • Max: I always thought when we graduated I would give you my ring. It looks like I won't graduate, so this is something from where I'll be. (He gives her the necklace from the first season)
Liz: I can't believe that this is what I have of you. I can't believe that after everything-
Max: Liz. You never slept with Kyle, did you? (Liz shakes her head) I wish...I wish this all could have been different. I wish that so much.
      (They kiss)
Liz: I guess this is goodbye. Just tell me one thing. Do you love her?
Max: Not like I love you.

    • Michael: There's a lot about you, Maria. There's a lot about you, but I think what means the most to me is that you're open. You know, I can look into your eyes and I can see you. I can see what you're thinking. I can see what you're feeling. How much I mean to you sometimes. How much I piss you off sometimes. But I can always see you.
      Maria: I see you too.
Michael: No. No, you don't see me. You know when Max and Liz would kiss and Liz would see get the flashes?
      Maria: Yeah.
Michael: And when we would kiss you didn't. I know how much that hurt you.
Maria: That doesn't matter to me anymore, Michael.
Michael: The reason you didn't get the flashes is because I didn't let you get them. I didn't let you see me. I've never let anyone see me before. Because there are things inside of me that I don't want people to see. There's things inside of me that I'm not too proud of. But I've thought about it, and I want you to see me. Take my hands.

    • (Isabel is kneeling at Alex's grave)
Isabel: How can I leave now? I haven't even lived yet.
Alex: I know how scary it is to have to leave. To leave this world. But as it turns out...it's not so bad. Your heart is your heart; your soul is your soul. That doesn't change.
Isabel: Why should I listen to you? You're not even real. You're just a figment of my imagination.
Alex: Well, then you should really listen, because it's coming from within you. Go home.
Isabel: Home to what? I was a terrible person where I come from. I betrayed my whole family. What is home, anyway? Half of me is from there. Half of me is from here. What makes one half more important than the other?
Alex: I think that's what you have to figure out.
Isabel: Yeah. Alex, that night. That night at the prom when we danced. It was one of the best nights of my life and I never got to tell you that.
(Alex holds his hand out for her)
      Alex: Milady. (They dance)

    • Liz: I jumped off bridges for you, I broke laws for you, I risked getting shot for you, I trusted you! And you go off - God, with Tess. I saved myself for you!
Max: Saved yourself? You slept with Kyle!
