  • Compelling and rich.

"Ten Drops of Water" features a strong guest performance by young Tony Haig, the actor who played Homer Page. His performance is one of the more real and compelling performances by a child actor on the show. In fact, one of the strengths of Route 66 is its guest performances, and many famous actors--notably Robert Duvall, George Kennedy, James Caan, and Leslie Nielson--appeared on this show in their younger days.

As with many Route 66 episodes, "Ten Drops of Water" is rich in symbolism, one of the fine qualities of this show that makes it not only good television, but also a text worthy of literary study. Dust is used as a symbol here to represent the cloudiness of the characters' states of mind, and a donkey is utilized as well to represent the characters' resistance to change and to show the destructive path that they were on.

I do question, however, why the boys never put the top up on the Corvette. I mean, it's great to be out in the open and all, but in the middle of a dust storm? Do they not know how expensive a good detailing job is?moreless
