  • Audiences didn't know what they were in for when they tuned in to the pilot episode of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, but the uncertainty was certainly worth it.

From the opening, as a town crier fell through a trap door, audiences knew that they were in for something different. Laugh-In's pilot is different in many ways from what the series evolved into, but there are some elements that remained the same. The cocktail party, the news segment and the attitude that made the show what it was were in evidence, but there were differences. For example, Henry Gibson was not his Parson character, but a waiter that went about the room delivering drinks to the others. Also, the news was all of the future, Dick doing national news and Dan on the international beat. Mod, Mod World was about women(a popular subject in future seasons) and a segment about famous inventions was also funny. No joke wall at the end though, the cast played with beach balls of all different sizes. A good start to what would be a classic series.
