  • Better than the Pilot and Promising

    7.0
I live in Canada, so I had never heard of AMC until a friend said that she had watched the first two episodes of Rubicon and felt it had promise. I was pleased to find out that our cable services carries AMC-HD so I taped one of the reruns of Episodes 1 and 2 and watched them back to back.

I thought the pilot started very slowly and this episode showed more promise. I can usually decide after an episode or two whether I like a show or not and being a fan of crime drama where each episode solves a case, I'm not sure about Rubicon.

But there was certainly enough good stuff and original plot lines that I will continue to watch. It's a bit confusing at times. For example, who's Katherine's late husband Tom and how does this fit into the rest of the story? How did he die?moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • James Wheeler is revealed to have been talking to Spangler in the last scene of the first episode where the men discuss the death of Tom Rhumor.

    • Grant mentions that Will is now always on time because of his past tragedy. However, Will comes in late for his first day taking over David's position.

    • The book on Tom Rhumor's nightstand is Graham Greene's drama-comedy "Our Man in Havana". A summary is as follows: In pre-Castro Cuba, James Wormold's wife has left him for another man, leaving him alone with his teenage daughter Milly. Wormold's career as a vacuum cleaner salesman doesn't net enough to pay, but accepts an offer to work for the British secret service, where he fails to find information to relay. He creates a vast network of agents, eventually passing off a sketch of a vacuum cleaner's circuit diagram as a secret military installation. This marvelous coup marks Wormold as a rising star. But when people around him start dropping like flies, Wormold realizes that someone is taking his little game very, very seriously.

    • We get a better glance at the book David gave Will in this episode. It's titled "Apple Pie for Breakfast: The Best Road Food In America". The book appears to be fictional as no such listing was found online.
